Agree with above comments. I really like the tarpaulins on the barges with writing on them. How did you make those? The pub looks great too.

Great work Andy.

I was wondering how realistic the lock and barge kit would turn out but you have answered that question in spades. It's brilliant !

There seems to be little clearance between length of boats, and the distance between top, and bottom set of gates - beware of the 'cill'. Boy it can be fun watching 'newbies' tackle a 70 foot boat in a narrow 'cut' lock going 'down-hill', as long as they're behind me. Bostin fun our-kid.

Nice little fleet you are building up there Terry.
Keep up the good work - cardboard is king!:)

I did a similar combination two or three years ago:

It was seeing your little diorama that I got my idea from Gastwo.

The tarpaulins come as part of the kit, cut um out scrumple them up then reshape as required.

The water on one of them is about 4 layers of gloss varnish and the other is a similar quantity of layers of PVA, thought I would try both methods, think the varnish is very slightly more shiny, I was surprised at how shiny just PVA is.

Hi Andy,i used the PVA method on mine after advice from Allan Downes a noted modeller with many years experience (sorry Allan) and it turned out fine.I found making the narrow boats very tedious.

One thing that might help you Andy if you make anymore locks is to use Tippex or white paint for the white bits on the end of the lock gates.I know you model OO gauge but i model N gauge which is more fiddley but i found it gave a better finish and is quicker.

The lock with the open gate are all painted I didn't bother with the white paper ends.

If I build any more I will do the same again as its give a more matt finish like real painted lock gates.

Have plenty of prototypes to look at locally as Foxton Locks which consists of two staircase's of 5 locks each is just down the road, we regularly walk our dogs there and back along the tow path.

Yes I found the PVA for water tip on Chris Nevard's site where he credits Allan for coming up with the idea.
