Some tips or advice please.

I have recently bought a set of brass etched bikes from Shire Scenes. I've had a look through the index and cant find any thing on painting or weathering same. If anyone has already done any of these bicycles any tips or advice will be really useful.

Thanks in anticipation

I normally use a spray primer on the complete sheet(s) of an etched kit before removing them, in some cases like window frames I also spray the final coat(s), but with something like the bikes I use acrylics on a very fine brush lightly "loaded", you may nedd more than one coat. I suppose you could do an all black spray on a sheet, but not all bikes were black even before WW2 AFAIK.

Don't cut off the piece of brass at the bottom of the wheels, it's ideal for sticking into a tiny hole drilled in the "road" gives a bit more to grip.

On the subject of Shire Scenes, has anybody yet assembled the N gauge knife grinders barrow? I look at it about once a week, then chicken out and put it away again.

When putting together etch kits, or any metal kits come to that, no matter how big or small, if you want a good paint finish that wont chip too easy - go by ( and buy!) this;-
