Apologies if you already know this, but in discussion today with Dickie Evans (Cornish Pirates) and Alan Black (London Wasps) the subject of broadband speed came up, and Dickie gave a very useful web address: - http://www.speed.io/index_en.html Having tested my connection at work I find that is 8000kbps while at home it is just below 1000kbps. Possibly a useful tool for anyone to use? |

There are several of these so called speed test web pages about. Not all that accurate if I was to believe all I'm told. Anyway I did the test and got 14840 download speed and 730 uplink. Not bad considering I'm supposed to to get 20Mb/sec! There again I'm not complaining too much 'cos Virgin only charge me for 10Mb/sec! |

Well I'm not too sure what I'm testing.   My result came out at 524 Download and 140 upload which, they tell me is equal to 1024 kbps. Given that my connection log tells me that I'm currently connected at 608 kbps, it all becomes a little too confusing for me................. France Telecom (or Orange as it now is) charge me based on a connection of 500 kbps so they're probably not too far adrift. ____________________ 'Petermac |

Down 2119 Up 523 Not too bad, but not brilliant considering the TalkTalk engineer was here on Monday to help increase my speed  The icon at bottom right of my screen said I was getting 3.4 Mips whilst the test was running. |

I've had issues with my speed this pm as we seem to be in the middle of a Nor'easter in the tristate area. I got 16,516 KBPS on Download; 3,686 KBPS on Upload; a Ping of 25ms and a connection of 2927 (whatever that is). Whilst it reports "Excellent" across the board, I'm not very happy being within 20 miles of NYC with a hot Fiber-Optic network connection.... Best, Pete. |

Download : 8803 Upload : 250 Both cited as Excellent Overall rating = 8000 : Excellent. Provider = Optus Internet Retail. Browser = Apple Safari Connection is by cable so I wouldn't expect anything less! Repeating the test will give slightly different results simply because the volume of traffic varies moment by moment. The overall result should be the same however. You might find that you get significantly different results at times of peak and minimal traffic. |

Tried it again this am: Download: 18,209 KBPS, Upload:4,440 KBPS. Ping: 23MS Connections:2,066 Bit of an improvement - the Nor'easter has turned to just wind and there may be some lines down - I'll not be happy till I get 20MBPS Down and an improved Upload - I send massive music files around the World.
