Bob posted this link up on another section http://yourmodelrailway.com/viewtopic.php?t=291 and it has some great OO buildings. Problem is I'm doing N gauge, so does anyone know how I can scale these down, my ageing HP printer doesn't give me the option to do this so I'm a bit puzzled :? | |||||||||

I don't know what format the download file comes in, but if it's a bitmap (.bmp) or a .jpg file then it will be simple to resize on the computer before printing. If not, it might be a little trickier. I had a horrible feeling you were going say they are .pdf files, Lawrence. As far as I know, the only way to print this type of file smaller than full size is to use the scaling feature on the printer itself, but if your printer doesn't have that facility you are a little bit, well,...stuffed! Lawrence - if you have access to a scanner there could be a round about way of scaling the drawings for N. i.e. print out the pdf as normal, then scan the drawings back into your pc - the scanner software should allow you to save it as a jpeg file. Then you can resize using your computer. The thing I'm not sure about is how the printing quality would turn out. Just to double check - have you been through all the functions on your print dialogue box? I have an Epson and if I select Print, then Properties, then Page Layout there is a tick box which allows me to reduce the print size by % irrespective of file type. Sorry don't mean to teach you to suck eggs - just thought it was worth a check. If neither of the above are workable and you are really keen to get one or two of the buildings for your layout I'm happy to try the scanning idea for you and email the reduced documents to you as jpegs. I don't know if there is a way of getting them to you via the forum? The thing we need to be sure of is the scaling - my calculation is that these buildings will be HO 1:87 and N is 1:148 so the reduction is about 59% - does that sound right? ____________________ Happy Modelling, Mike |

If you can get them to jpegs Mike then you could upload them to photobucket or, better still, put them on Filecrunch or Mediafire and then anyone interested could just download them from there.

Glad you got on with Mediafire ok. It's a very handy resource for us to have. Downloaded the picture Mike and then it was easy to make it any size you like. The smaller the size the better apparent quality. I think it will work well.

Guys, many thanks for all the headscratching on my behalf, I think I may have sussed it though. I selected the paper size to A6 and checked the "shrink to fit paper" box (don't have a percentage one on mine Mike) and printed them out. The A6 selection gave me 46% of the original size so I reckon it wont be too far away from scale. The other problem now is that it is all so small, I'm going to have to get a magnifier thingy to see it all now Will probably get the chance to try building it at the weekend so I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again guys |

While I have been faffing about with this I have gone through the available buildings and I have to say there are some very nice models indeed, either to build as shown or to use as templates for scratchbuilding purposes.
