Year in year out REX do this and Hornby do nothing about it! I dont know which of the 2 is more Lame. As some of you may know years ago I was part of the REX team (I used to do the drawings for the mag) but after several 'meetings' where they openly discussed editorial content designed to **** off bachmann or more open debate on how they could time the Hornby news to break the embargo and get one over on everyone else, I couldn't ally myself to the magazine. My morals were worth more than the money they were paying. Thing is, Simon at Hornby is a nice guy, too nice, he lets Sutton trample all over him every year and does nothing. There are some good people at REX, shame the captain of the ship is such an ****! Sorry, no pictures of anything until Hornby put them on their site. We are then expected to download them over Christmas Day and Boxing Day and add them to our own sites... | |||||||||

There has only one L1 ever been in LNER green, the very first one! I hope Hornby will have chosen LNER 9000 as one of 2010 releases. I am glad that I am collecting SR locos only, so will have to buy only one each of LNER L1, B17 (LNER green, please!) and GWR Castle and 28xx. OK, maybe more than one B17 - but no more than three! I was really looking forward to 2010 as I think the Castle class is a nice looking engine. But a B17! A real beauty! So at last I will have to treat myself to the nice Hornby teak Gresley coaches, not the cheapest train me fears! It cannot be denied, he is a man of taste, this Mr. Kohler! Despite the fact my grandfather worked for the LNER my knowledge of their locomotives is a bit hazy but I think there were two 2-6-4 Tank L1 classes . The Robinson L1 class which later became the L3 and the Thompson L1 which was a later version. I am guessing its the Thompson version that Hornby will be producing. ____________________ Richard. The first LNER L1 9000 was different to the rest of the production batch, there was two variations on production batch two, some having a curved front footplate, while the later versions had a cut away footplate. DMR were going to produce an etched kit, I am not too sure if that will still go ahead now. David |

Chris's hint last week was not lost on me. Though I shall wait to see the quality of the item in due course before parting with the hard-earned drinking vouchers. Hornby have pulled their socks up mightily over the past few years but still not universally across the board. The 4VEP is a relatively complex model to tool with a lot of small windows. I sincerely hope when they appear that they are the equal of the Bachmann CEP units. It's also good to see the LNER getting more attention. The glamour of their Pacific main line types has made them popular at the expense of very many smaller locos which they ran and which have been under-represented in the RtR arena for years. |

The locomotives of the great London and North Eastern Railway were so numerous that to name them would have used up all known names not already allocated to the Royal Navy. In the main, we left the naming of locomotives to those companies whose output was so sparse that each one demanded a naming ceremony. ____________________ 'Petermac |
