I was actually asking Brian to Skype, Alan. I have actually given up. The CD was only for the NMRA website, so it's not important. It would have been nice to be able to do it, but this is the first time I've ever been asked, so it's not likely to happen again.

MaxSouthOz wrote: I don't understand any of that, Sol, For a start, My Computer doesn't give access to the picture files. Max, clicking on My Computer should take you to the main part - the top being files & one is called Max's Documents & below that are the various drives/devices, Click on Max's documents & it sems the only folders that have the "copy to CD" are My Vidoes, My Pictures & My Music - based on the folder name. You may have to re-load Office. |

I have been working on it today, Alan. There is something wrong with the software - even after I reloaded Office. To see my problem, open one of your photograph files. Click on a picture. On the upper left there are picture tasks. One of those options (usually the bottom one) is Copy file to CD. That option is missing. It is also impossible to copy a picture file to the CD burner via any other path - believe me, I've tried them all. Some time ago I was having trouble renaming my picture files. Someone on YMR led me to a box which needed to be checked and the problem went away. I'm going to do a search to see if I can find that thread. Then I will go to that area and see if the idiot who unchecked the box has done something else. Stand by for further developments - or not . . . ____________________ Max Port Elderley |

I found it. It was Dulkedog who led me to the Folder options and we fixed the "Hide Extensions" options. I reset all the options to default, but it hasn't made any difference this time. Maybe he'll have another brilliant idea?

I just fixed a teacher's laptop at work with a disappearing DVD drive - that neded a registry hack which I don't recommend for anyone who doesn't know what they are doing.

I checked my mate around the corner - he too has XP Home but no "copy to CD" facility & that is how he got the PC but then he has not got Nero I think - I will follow that up. | |||||||||

Nero doesn't work either. There is no option in Nero for copying pictures to a CD. I can burn DVDs, I can rip and burn audio CDs. I can play DVDs. The only thing I can't do is Copy Photographs to a CD. I have copied all relevant pictures on to a 2GB drive. I'm going to take it up to the studio as Wendy has copied pictures on to CDs on her laptop. ____________________ Max Port Elderley |

OK. Bearing in mind that all four machines have been loaded with my Windows Business software, I have three laptops and a desktop. The picture files are on the desktop main drive. I loaded all my pictures into a folder and moved that folder on to an external 2GB drive. I put the drive into the laptop in Wendy's studio and copied the pictures on to a CD. I removed the drive and opened the CD and I could look at the pictures. Wendy's laptop in the studio has the option Copy to CD in Picture Tasks, which neither my laptop, which is attached to the layout, nor the desktop has. Naturally her laptop copied the pictures to the CD. I returned to my play room. My laptop, which doesn't have the Copy to CD in the Picture Tasks, opened the CD successfully. The CD will not open in the desktop CD/DVD drive. To copy pictures from my desktop, the procedure is:- 1. Move the pictures to a portable drive. 2. Take the drive up to the studio and copy the pictures on to a CD The burning question (pardon the pun), is why do I not have the option Copy to CD in the Picture Tasks drop down of the folder? ![]() ____________________ Max Port Elderley |

Max i dont know how you manage it You do seem to get the wierdest computer problems im sure it must be something that has been changed on your picture file options that is stopping you copying anything something like a read only permission or something on those type of files. Im surprised Wendy let you use hers ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() cheers Brian |

That's why I have so many computers, Brian. The hope is that at least one will be working :exclam If I didn't know me as being so trustworthy, I'd think I was making it up :exclam I agree with your diagnosis, but what is it :question and, better question, where is it :question ____________________ Max Port Elderley |

Brian. The CD Drive D only has the tabs: General Autoplay Hardware InCD and Sharing. The Drive E has Recording and I clicked Enable, but I'm still not able to copy pictures to either Drive.

Max I wonder if you have a sofware problem, with your copy of windows, because if you have tried everything, and then it works on another computer, the problme must be your copy of XP, have you been installing all the updates on the problem computer !! |

I think so, Alan. They are all on the router network and we install them as they come up. I think you are right, though. It's just a matter of finding it. This is the first time I have tried to copy photos to a CD, so it doesn't come up very often. I can do it via the flash drive, so I'm not stuck. Thanks.
