I have downloaded Thunderbird & it seems quite good. The main two problems I have is when importing the address book from OE, it puts all addresses from all folders into one folderin order whereas under OE, I had separate folders. The other one is having to indicate that each address is allowed to receive HTML mail, not just text & with around 150 e-addresses, that is slow & laborious. Hopefully when I can access the forum for Mozilla, it will help out. |

I use a yahoo email address which is web based so dont use a email program as such. My business email is associated to my ISP and as such I use outlook express, having said that I can access it via there site as a web based system, can you not access your email via a webpage ? |

Right, had a play with Web mail. OK for /reading ending messages especially from other than your own PC- no good if you want to send attachments then which normally are stored on your own PC.

Firefox -it has a couple of good points - like the forum pictures on the front & recent pages fit compared to IE. Even Bob's favourite Slimbrowser doesn't fit the best on my PC. It seems faster than IR in loading YMR - does it differently. Thunderbird is a different story - still working on that. |

E-mail alerts - audible & visual While this all works for Outlook Express, some of this may work for Outlook. When I get an e-mail coming in, I get a beep sound & the envelope appears in the bottom toolbar of the Desktop. Under Thunderbird e-mail,. it was possible to get a specific sound file & a Pop up window advises me of e-mail - it was helpful as I could hear this out in the train room. Well , under OE, I downloaded a file from http://www.tucows.com/preview/381108 this gives a pop up window advising you of mail & also followed this advice Go to the Control Panel and open Sounds and Audio Devices and scroll down until you get to the received mail one, then browse to the sound you want to hear when you receive mail. For those with Outlook, this site maybe helpful http://blogs.chron.com/helpline/archives/2005/11/outlook_new_e-m.html |

This evening my outlook express told me it was receving mail. the message was downloaded up to 97% then went back to start again .or so i thought . after dinner i got back on here to find loads of e-mails that i had read shown as unopened .according to me outlook page i have 1406 unread e-mails. .Idid yesterday download the latest a v g antivirus proggramme (the freebie of course )so that may have something to do with it . I find often when i download an update it upsets the apple cart. i will try to restore to an earlier date to see if that proves anything . again OH WHAT TO DO ![]() ____________________ reg |

Your AVG shouldn't have anything to do with that Reg, it is more likely to be Windows (or one of the security updates) which is causing the problem. I have had a couple of niggly little problems after these updates, so i restored to before the update and it was fine I am using XP with service pack 3 ____________________ 'Kev |

Reg, I too downloaded the latest AVG anti-virus version last night and have had none of the problems you mention. It seems that the AVG update is not at fault.
