You never let us down Marty.  The rock face looks great and accompanied by not only a clear explanation of the process but also "less is more wisdom".  Like you I have cursed more than once that I have been less than subtle.  sometimes it can be easily corrected, but at other times, not so.  I tend to take a break every so often to avoid piling more on.
It is going to be a super scene.

Michael

The rock face looks perfect, fits in nicely.
I am pretty impressed with the work which went in to getting the tunnel mouth to fit. The finished mouth looks good, if you didn’t point it out I doubt anyone would notice its different.

Thanks Michael.

"Subtle"... yep... that's me.... most of the time. Although, standing on a step-stool and reaching across to the rear of the layout with arms that spend most of their time wielding nothing heavier than a computer mouse can lead to workmanship that suggests otherwise.

The tunnel mouth has been painted.
After a light grey base coat from a rattle can and a chance to dry overnight, a similar grey/green was mixed up as a base coat from Jo Sonjas acrylics as was used on the cliff walls.

Then several light washes of black, more drying time and dry brushing with the light base colours as highlights.
Finally a light dusting of weathering powders.

... and propped into position for effect. As with the tunnel mouth on the Llandyfriog line below he engine shed, this tunnel portal also lacks firm support on the far side of the line and this is where the engineer and stonemason will next start work on creating the banks and channel for the mill stream.

More rock walls are needed above and to the right of the tunnel and that gap on the near edge needs some fettling.

Rattling along....

Thank you for your comments Claus, John and Kevin.
Passing by the layout room in the early dawn light revealed a photo opportunity.

The pale light reflects off the Afon Teifi as the first bus of the day crosses the bridge bringing workers to the woollen mill.

From up above the light creeps into the depths of the gorge.

Hoping to get some more work done on the tunnel mouth this weekend.... there has been a short delay as life gets in the way.

Hi Marty. Keep up the good work, I googled  Newcastle Emlyn, and found it. Don’t you mean “By Dawns Early Light”?   Best wishes Kevin

Mood is certainly the thing Marty - one can almost feel the damp and see the mists rising with the sun.

I well remember the build of these magnificent models - hopefully, we're going to see more now you're underway with your tunnel. :thumbs
