My Norton subscription has run out. Being scared to death about my computer being lost on Ilkley Moor and the worms coming to eat it up, I tried to renew my subscription. There was no answer from Norton so I took the plunge and, as recommended on here, I have taken out a subscription with AVG. I paid 34.49 Euros for the almost all singing, all dancing version - I have so much valuable information on here and therefore decided to pay to ensure constant updates and protection. I'm a coward at heart when it comes to computers !! One thing that has surprised me is that the office address for AVG is in Nicosia, Cyprus !! Not a place I'd have associated with high-tech industries. Furthermore, their help-line seems to be based in the Czech Republic !! Can you put my worrying mind at rest and tell me I've done the right thing !!! I'd hate to think everything stored on here is now winging it's way around the night clubs of Aya Nappa or Prague !!! ____________________ 'Petermac |

I have had AVG free at home for around 3/4 years, and since the start of this year paid for the top package at work, and to date have never had a problem.

A few comments: 1. AVG has a great reputation, and I have used free versions of it on many PCs. 2. Norton? I used it for the parish computer network a few years ago and vowed never again. It basically jammed up the systems. (We now use Bit Defender.) 3. I've had a word with that night club owner in Prague and she assures me that your secrets are safe ![]() ____________________ Tim. I have AVAST. It's brilliant! sometimes it puts YMR in the Junk Mail folder - what a cheek! but it has a significant firewall and an alarm on every email with a virus, trojan horse; everything. It won't let you proceed until you have dealt with the intruder. Best oif all, IT'S FREE

I also use Avast Max and have done for a long time. I like the way it automatically updates itself too.

I switched to AVAST after the evil empire (micro$oft) took over AVG. I use Zone Alarm Pro as a firewall.

I was using Zone Alarm Pro with firewall & anti-virus all in one. It was an aggresive program, even asking if I am allowed to run Excel for the first time. After one specific Windows update, I could not access the Internet so in contacting my ISP which is local here in South Australia, it was discovered that ZoneAlarm was stopping it. Furthers discussions re firewall - well ,the modem has a first class one built in & Windows XP also has one so that fixed that, I removed Zone Alarm & all worked well with the Internet. I asked about anti-virus like the freebies & he hummed & aahhed & suggested that paid versions are better & so I obtained NOD32 - good price & no problems. Two days after I did this, I received an e-mail from Zone Alarm reporting the fact that latest updates to Windows may prevent accessing the Internet/e-mails !! & there was a update to Zone Alarm to allow the User to access the Internet. I thought " how can I access the Internet to get the update to allow me the access the internet?". So far, using built in Firewalls & NOD32, no problems. |

Lawrence. Avast is free. Go back in and check, you may have selected the pro model in error. Cheers. Max
