Help!!!

One of our computers appears to keep trying to get us to connect to Antivirus 2009 and Power Antivirus.  A quick check of the internet shows me that these are both quite nasty and I have no idea how they got into our system.

The other two computers work fine at the moment.

I have the AVG anti virus and the Spyware recommended on here - I wonder if anyone knows how they have not prevented this or spotted it?  I see there are several sites telling me how to remove Antivirus 2009 but can anyone recommend one?  I would hate to make it worse by finding I have played right into their hands and further screwed the PC!

If you google antivirus 2009 there are a number of removal tools

It not a mailicoius virus just annoying with its pop ups just take no notice of them and dont take their advise about purchursing other programs.

It is a variant of an old programme thats why it didnt get picked up with by your avg

im sure within a day or so the update for avg will pick up the variant but unfortunately you were one of the first to recive it before they realease an update

Probably came in on email you recieved the sender usually has no idea they are spreading it

IF a prob post again iand i will look deeper for removal tools but there are a few out thier already if you google.

Its the old adige that any anti virus programme is only as good as its last update

i would always recommemnd anyone to set your avg to dailys update checks

cheers Brian

chris this sounds like a TROJAN, what they do is attach to your system, when you connect to the internet they then talk to whoever put the TROJAN out. you then get bombarded by pop ups etc. antivirus software will not pick these up. they are normally downloaded with a free download like smileys (you never get anything for nothing) free music download sites are riddled with them, i downloaded imesh and this came with 76 of these files. some just tick over in the background and monitor what sites you visit.

i downloade a free software called AD AWARE, this is free and safe. download this and install and run a full system scan. my first scan found 764 files. you can then delete these. if you do have a lot of free software it may not operate after deleting these files. if you can live without the software fine, if not delete the software and then re install. it is worth running this every month.

not tried this download site

and this one

Thanks everyone! It would appear to have worked, but I am keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow to see how it has gone.

I do keep our anti-virus up to date but I believe as you have suggested this spyware is a bit different and I had not kept that as up to date as I should...

Lesson learnt!
