Stumbled across this today, and thought somebody might be interested in these track cutters.

DCC Concepts DCT-HTC Heavy Track Cutters – Rails of Sheffield

Edit Just noticed the date is wrong in the title, it should say Wednesday 22nd February 2023

I wonder if these are the same as the Xuron cutters Ed ?  Xuron claim a lifetime guarantee if used properly and yes, it is indeed a lifetime guarantee - for the lifetime of the cutters rather than for me !!!

If they are, then it's a good deal.

The Zuron ones are good but not as perfect as they claim ......................IMHO of course....

Same sort of thing Peter, but also for cutting rails that have already been laid.

Must admit my Xuron cutters don't seem to have lasted very long, even though I only used them to cut rail.

I'm on my second pair of Xuron track cutters.  That's now four layouts and 20-something years.  The first pair lasted roughly half of that time and were worked much harder than their replacements because they cut most of the rail for the vast Penhayle Bay layout.  That used over 125 yards* of track.

One jaw simply sheared away from the arm whilst attempting a perfectly normal cut or rail.

Both pairs have been (ab)used at times as wire-strippers for which they are not ideally suited.  Xuron do also make strippers so quite why I haven't invested in a pair is beyond explanation.

On the whole I have been very happy with them and will be reluctant to replace the current pair if or when that time comes.  But as and when necessary it will be with a third pair of Xurons and no other brand - assuming they remain available.

* That's five whole boxes of yard-length flexi-track plus all the pointwork.  Most of the flexi had to be trimmed even when used nominally at full length because there was very little straight track on that layout.  Meaning almost every yard laid had to have at least one rail trimmed back for the curve.

I have 2 pairs - 1 for cutting pre installation and the other for vertical cuts to in-situ track.

Xuron clearly state that they must only be used for cutting track and I've never used them for anything else.  Even so, my first pair are now in need of replacement - the cutting edge is quite badly worn.

Like you Rick, I'll replace them with another of the same - I too haven't found anything any better thus my question about these being Xuron in disguise .....
