It is a long train but there are several drivers on the Swiss train.
Here is a steam engine with 43 cars behind it returning to Adelaide for the Royal Tour in Australia in 1954.  Single handed, one crew.  

There were regularly Indian scheduled Indian Pacifics with 30 cars and one or two locos and extra consists if delays meant an imbalance of consists ... I believe the record is 47 cars long, all with 2 locos
