Hi All,
Just doing a bit of research but does anyone have a train set Hornby and/or Bachmann power pack for their analog controllers.

If so could you fill me in on the ratings on the "wall wart" plug in transformers please?

It is research for an article I am compiling,

Cheers and TIA

Trevor

I have a few of the Hornby versions Terry - I'll have a look at them this evening.  :thumbs

Hi Terry

Do you mean the C990 16v AC transformers?

I have about 15 of them running controllers, CDU's, etc.  I find that they are fairly bullet-proof although if you run a controller and a CDU from the same one, when you change the points, the train stutters.

Barry

Thanks Barry and Peter,
Is there a VA or Ampere rating somewhere on the data plate please?

TIA

Trevor

Here are the two types of Hornby transformer/controllers I have Terry.

This one is the simple (old) controller (Hornby R 695)

It requires a 16v AC input and offers either 12v DC or 16v AC output.  No amperages given, just the voltages.

This one is the plug-in transformer, (C 990) which I presume, was designed to used with it:

It is marked "Pri 230/240v AC 16.6w"  (presumably the primary winding and 16.6 watt consumption)
"Sec 16v AC  600ma"  (presumably, secondary winding output rated at 600 milliamps)

Can't help any further I'm afraid although I do have an old Bachmann EZ controller which I think I ran off a Lenz Digital Plus T1 transformer.

I also have a couple of H & M controllers but I think you're after wall mounted transformer ratings ..........

Thanks Peter,
That will do it!  The output compared to the input is fairly inefficient - a good transformer should be well over 90% output to input (1400mA at least)  but that demonstrates the price factor and Chinese manufacture

Cheers and Thanks again

Trevor
