There are so many excellent scenes on John Dew's Granby that it's difficult to select just one as my choice for POTM but I thought this one looked rather appealing. It was apparently taken in 1948 but John has done an excellent job of recreating it today :![]() It can be found here: https://yourmodelrailway.net/gallery/434/434_020000_210000000.jpg ____________________ 'Petermac |

This one for me. I love the old Bedford in the background. They were known as 'pramhandles' on account of the useless bar across the front. So much atmosphere in this layout.![]() ____________________ Cheers Pete. |

Tough choice…. Luxted is very good but Claus’s Flinders Street Station with the tram in the foreground gets my vote.

Thank you for voting for my picture. I am very honoured. The story behind the picture is as follows: I have built model railways for many, many years. During this time I have had a few layouts. The last one, though, sat dormant for 20 odd years. Instead I got involved with a heritage railway, building tracks in scale 1:1 and running real trains. In 2014 my wife and I relocated from Denmark to Australia (by train, of course). The rolling stock and buildings went into storage, and the tracks were given to a model railway club. During our travels towards Australia I came up with the idea of an Australian layout, which could be portable and in a limited space. So I thought trams would be suitable. I didn’t know much about model trams, but how hard could it be? Well, perhaps not too hard, but prices of tracks and trains/trams have gone up a fair bit during the last 25 years. Anyway, I knew I wanted to model the key intersection of Flinders Street and Swanston Street in Melbourne. A feature of the intersection is of course Flinders Street Station (and Young & Jackson Hotel). At the moment Wombat Creek doesn’t have a railway, so the station became ‘Wombat Creek Bank and Gold Exchange’. The construction began during the 2nd lockdown of Melbourne in 2020, which meant travel restrictions. I couldn’t go into town. Instead I went to the internet. I got a floorplan of the station and managed to calculate the width of the façade. An approximately height came from a drawing of the façade. Unfortunately the drawing wasn’t too accurate! Instead I relied on Google Streetview and other images. The construction of the Bank took a long time. A lot of features had to be added. I also got tired of the building from time to time and started other projects. But finally it is almost finished (still waiting for the right clock). It is not a 100% accurate model of the real station, but close enough. I am glad you liked the photo. Once again – thank you! ____________________ Cheers, Claus http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellef/ |
