I've searched up a considerable amount of photos of the LBSCR E2 class as part of my preparation to give my Hornby Thomas more E2 detail. One detail that stuck out to me and I'm unsure of the purpose of, is a two-pronged device on top of the right water tank. Does anyone have an answer for me?

I'd also like a decent look at the cab interior (even just the inside of an old Hornby E2's cab with the roof lifted out of the way would be nice), and information on whether the extended-tank series were any more efficient on coal than the first series.

My workbench, AKA an exercise in insanity
