Hi All. I have been faffing around with Shunting Puzzles for quite a while now. Even though I have read that it was based in a little used location and the “ third siding was the passenger train line “ . I cannot remember the location, and how it would fit in with the timetable and if once the line is clear for the passenger trains, as rare as they were, was there any catch or trap points in the sidings to protect the passenger trains? Best wishes Kevin

There was not a station at Kilham, only the sidings. The 1922 timetable shows 3 passenger trains a day on the line, so plenty of time to use the mainline for shunting. Given the frequency of traffic catch points were unlikely, the sidings were probably 6-12" or so lower than the main. Wymann has some real life inglenooks with photos. Bottom of the first page - prototype"inglenooks". Click on this and you will see some real inglenooks. The one at Selby on the Great Northern is pure freight. Nigel ____________________ ©Nigel C. Phillips |

Hi Nigel. Thank you again for your reply. This time I changed the word order and found some Prototype photos But, these photos are of Inglenooks within depots, without straying on to the mainline as in “Kilham “. Best wishes Kevin ____________________ Staying on the thread Kevin. |

Kilham was the inspiration, up to you to make it what you want. You will find the basics in many places - as previously mentioned Merton Street in Banbury had one either side of the station. Watlington also had the basics. Nigel ____________________ ©Nigel C. Phillips |
