I decided this small building would be ideal for the small layout currently under construction. It makes up into a fine building...
However, I felt that a few small refinements would add to the appeal of the building. So, I printed off the kit again and began construction for the second time. First job - change the downpipes to something more realistic. This necessitated trimming the inner end wall to the same width as the outer end walls and trimming off the printed downpipes instead of wrapping same around inner ends. The brickwork flaps on the outer ends were simply glued over both wall edges at each end to give the impression of one thick wall, as seen here...
Gutter and downpipes were made from 2mm half-round strip (gutters) and appropriate rod (downpipes) from the Evergreen range. The brackets on the downpipes are strips of self-adhesive label coloured with felt tipped pen. On the original model the door knobs are simply printed. I drilled through the doors and glued in Peco track pins. The doors were painted with watercolours. Lastly, I cut the platform shelter awning from a strip of Scalescenes Cream Clapboard glued to thin card. The pointed boards were cut with a scalpel and a line of holes drilled just above...
Here is the finished building ready to take its place on the station platform (just as soon as I have built it!)...

I forgot to mention a slight improvement to the chimney stack. As is usual with Scalescenes kits, the chimney overlay wraps around the stack leaving a seam in the centre of the chimney front. To improve this I removed the overlay betweeen both front corners and substituted a one-piece overlay to cover the whole of the front of the chimney. Easy to do provided you have a very sharp craft knife to trim the overlays at the corners. Terry |
