Pictures of steam locos

Those Class 67's are just streamlining at its best… Take a rectangular block and cut the top corners off…! :mutley:mutley

As promised pic of the Great Britain VIII pulling into Plymouth North Road this afternoon. It was hauled from Exeter St. Davids by a Class 66 No. 66122,  but will be going out tomorrow behind No. 70000 'Britannia'. Note the EWS livery that was in use, also a Class 66 on passenger duties.

Tomorrow I'll post a steamer.

Herewith the pics from today.

To start with we have a Class 153 No. 153373 entering Plymouth North Road

Then No. 70000 'Britannia' entering Plymouth North Road from Tavistock Junction propelling its Support Coach.

No. 70000 'Britannia' under the road bridge and onto the Platform Avoiding line.

Class 66 No. 66122 on Positioning Moves having brought the train up from Penzance. It was positioning to change over to the Platform Avoiding line to collect Britannia and the Support Coach.

No. 66122 and No. 70000 'Britannia' on Positioning moves. It was now going to back onto the train on Platform 8 in readiness to depart from Plymouth for Bristol Temple Meads at 1347.

The whole train was due to leave at 1357 but instead of it being Steam Hauled, as advertised, it was decided to put the Diesel leading so that it could be detached at Exeter to avoid a new slot in timetabling.  I didn't watch it leaving.
Apparently the Diesel remained on all the way to Bristol.

More next time. Till then, thanks for viewing.

Saw an interesting Combination at Dawlish yesterday, well, unusual for me anyway. It's a Class 143 No. 143620 on the local Exmouth to Paignton Service but supplemented by an unidentified Class 153. As there is no connecting doors between the two it meant that the Guard isn't able to go through the whole length of his train.

Class 143 No. 143620 + Class 153 No. 153??? entering Dawlish Station.

Just found out that the Royal Duchy for 5th July has been cancelled by Network Rail (Great Western Zone) due to a Steam Ban on the line because of Fire Risk.

Network Rail cancelled a couple last year as well for the same reason. Trouble is, in the days of steam the embankments etc and line side vegetation was kept trimmed to avoid fire. Nowadays with the penny pinching that goes on and probably the fact that there isn't the same danger with a Diesel they are left overgrown.

Thanks Gary. It was great. Only pity was that they had nothing new in the locomotive line to offer. Still there is always the next time.
