Lovely shot of the class 43 Mike, interesting livery too. Keep the photos coming Mike always enjoy looking through them, especially as I'm not as mobile these days.

Always try to look on the bright side of life!

Found this whilst I was out and about this morning:

Nice, never seen one in this lively before, when I was at uni there was usual a railfreight class 70 stabled at parkway station, Bristol, Filton. Never photographed it, but a very good looking loco.

It was camera angle Mike. The track there is dead flat. It was taken from the far side of the Plym Estuary, about 350 yds. away. It was probably coming from Laira after refuelling. It had probably dropped off a load of Engineering Supplies at Tavistock Junction Yard. This shot was off it heading back to Tavistock Junction after about half an hour at Laira. I did catch it going into to Laira but there was too much vegitation in the way.

It wasn't too bad Ed. Bright sunshine and low winds, although the temperature was only about 6 - 7 degrees. Last Friday was worse, 3 degrees with 40mph NW winds.

Yes Chubber. A bit lower down the Estuary. They're a darn nuisance, scares all the birds away. Mind it is only at High Tide. It would be mud skiing at Low.

Went to the South Devon Railway Winter Gala yesterday. Here are some pics.

From the footbridge at Buckfastleigh.

No. 6412 at Totnes

No. 6412 at Buckfastleigh

No. 1369 at Buckfastleigh

No. 1450 at Buckfastleigh

No. 1450 at Totnes

No. 1450 at Staverton

D2246 at Staverton on Milk and Parcels Turn

No. 4612 at Buckfastleigh.

More later (Infrastructure and a couple of wagons). Next Sat/Sun will be another visit weather permitting. Then it is a Great Western Show with 6 engines in steam.
This whole trip turned out to be a bit of a nightmare. The weather remained pretty well ghastly all day. On arrival at Totnes from Plymouth and making my way to the SDR the first thing I met with was a flood, about 12 inches deep with prevented access to the Footbridge that leads the SDR. Back to Totnes Station and after a breakfast at the Signal Box Café (recommended) I found an alternative route to the SDR and managed to get there with Dry feet. The biggest problem then for the rest of the day was attempting to keep the cameras (and myself) dry. The light overall was terrible and because of flooding I was unable to do my normal walks along the Dart for birds etc. At about 2.30 I had had enough so returned home, by which time the normal route back to Totnes had dried up (The tide had gone out). Trains however back to Plymouth were delayed by a 'One Under' event at Slough, so it was almost 5 by the time I got home. Apparently we were lucky as there was a massive land slip between Staverton and Totnes on Monday last which could have thrown the whole Event off, but sterling work by the SDR got things up and running again, albeit with speed restrictions past the damaged area. I'm looking forward to a repeat trip next weekend, at least I now know an alternative route to the SDR from Totnes. Such is life I suppose.

Great photos as always Mick, lots more reference material to help this poor dusty, dry and hot Australian create a miniature Wales in his spare bedroom!
Sorry to hear you couldn't get your birding done in the same trip but you've captured some lovely scenes of a wet, winter railway so, as you say, a long wet day but not totally wasted.

All the best

The photos on the WSR of Andrew Barclay 0-4-0 Caledonia Works are really good, there is a facebook page dedicated to this loco, with excellent photos of its restoration.

Pete.

Gee…. they are really worried about Alice jumping the tracks aren't they? A concrete wall and old tyre barrier between it and the road!
