Pictures of steam locos

It must be Autumn. The Sandite train was heading towards Laira yesterday morning. 3 x Sandite wagons topped and tailed by 2 x Class 66. Didn't manage a useable pic but if they are in the area might be able to get one that is.

Over at Dawlish and Dawlish Warren yesterday. Herewith a few images.

Class 150 No. 150266 at Dawlish Warren Station en-route to Exmouth

Class 43 passing 150266 at Dawlish Warren Station. Note dead pigeon on the front of the HST in the horn grills.

Class 150 no. 150131 at Dawlish Warren Station en-route to Paignton

Super Voyager heading North through Dawlish Station.

That's all for now. More next week when I hope to capture an HST at Buckfastleigh on the South Devon Railway.

My mate came up trumps with a shot of the Sandite train near Laira so here it is. No. 66061 at the front and No. 66138 at the back.
Nice weathering excercise there for someone.

Went to the SDR today to capture the HST and we were in luck. It was the green one 43187 & 43188 that paid a visit. Have loads of pics of it and some of the other stuff at the railway so will post them tomorrow.

As promised pics from the SDR yesterday. Enjoy.

No. 3205 running round at Totnes

No. 5526 undergoing restoration at Buckfastleigh

No. 6412 at Totnes. At the back of the train was No. 3205.

No. 6412 on Autocoach service

Class 150 passing Totnes on the main line

GWR HST No 43187 & 43188 entering the SDR from the main line at Totnes. For some reason the driver of the lead enging gave us all a rendering of 'Ilkley Moor' on the horns. Unusual choice for a Devonshire railway.

Entering Buckfastleigh

At Buckfastleigh before leaving for Paddington

Class 37 No. 6975 at Buckfastleigh

A couple of wagons

And a nice little coach

That's it for a week or so. Back there again soon so will try and get some more interesting pics. If anyone wants full size pics PM me and I'll send them to you. They average out at about 12Mb per pic.

Having seen the HST in the new colours I must admit it looks better in the flesh that it does in pics, but the green is definately too dark. All in all yesterday was an enjoyable one, but did not go completely as planned.

Due to the local Class 150 service to Penzance failing at Platform 1 at Totnes main Line Station, and the subsequent Platform changes until it could be removed, the HST was delayed by about 15 minutes. This failure meant that the Cross Country down service to Plymouth had to go onto Platform 2 (wrong line) to load/unload. One that was done it had to head back towards Newton Abbot again until it could cross over to the right line to continue on its way.

The HST certainly didn't like the track on the SDR. The bogies were screaming most of the time and I don't think it went any faster than 15mph throughout it's stay, but it was something different.

After visiting the SDR the train then went on to the now mothballed Heathfield branch for a trip then returned again to Buckfastlegh and finally left at about 1530, where it again visited Heathfield before heading home to Paddington.

There are some vids of the train at Buckfastleigh on You-tube so will check them out and post the url's later.

Today I went over to Liskeard for the Stamp Fair and managed to get a few pics of the trains etc.

A pair of Matisa Tampers in Plymouth Station. I was hoping to get better but I only had about three minutes before my train left. Sorry.

The other end.

Class 153 in  Citizensrail.Org livery at Platform 3 at Liskeard on the Looe Service

Class 150 entering Liskeard on the Penzance service

I also took some infrastructure shots so will put them up later when I have sorted them out.

The infrastructure pics.

Seating Detail

Looe Platform ( Liskeard Platfrom 3) with the Looe train at the Platform

Liskeard Down Main Starter

The Down Shelter

The Signal Box

The Up Main Starter. Note the Somersault arm.

That's it for now. Next weekend will be the SDR and the B&W weather permitting.

On the way home I called into Liskeard Models and managed to pick up a very nice Hornby Class 37 in BR green with small yellow panels (the split headcode one) for a tenner. Got it home and after cleaning the wheels it ran a dream. Now all I need to do is put a number on it.

I think the bridge is ok Marty apart from needing a lick of paint. On some days when there is a visiting steamer it's easier to cross by the underpass as the bridge is too full of people. The same goes for Thomas Days, then it's full of screaming Rugrats. I hope to get over this weekend as it's Half Price Day, so it will be busy then as well. Sunday might well be the first visit to the B & W this year as well, same thing Half Price Day and I'm hoping the 42xx will be running. I haven't managed that one yet.

FGW(GWR) have named Class 43 No.43172 Harry Patch and turned it out in a livery suitable for the Remembrance period. I haven't seen it yet in person but when I do will try and get some pics. Locomotion Models have done a set of it along with an un-powered Class 43. They have based it on the Hornby Model. It seems a bit steep at £220 and I wonder how much of that will be donated to the Royal British Legion.

Welcome – Locomotion Models

The naming ceremony

I mananged to capture this running along the Plym Estuary this morning. To my mind it is the best livery a Class 43 has ever carried.
It is Class 43 No. 43172 'Harry Patch' named after the last surviving British Tommy from the Great War. We must remember them and all the others who have perished in the numerous wars since.
