Pictures of steam locos

Update on 60009. She is now in Bristol Barton Hill Depot. She left Totnes about 7-ish yesterday then up to Bristol via Laira Depot where she would have been turned on the triangle, so she must have made Hemerdon in both directions on her own.

We have Britannia down on Sunday on the so far this year fated Royal Duchy. Will try and get some shots. Let's hope she makes it for a change.

Surprise, surprise. The Royal Duchy made it to Par and back. First this year. Pics coming soon once I've done them. Will include a shot of the Air Brake compressor as well for anyone wanting to add it onto a Britannia.

Pic 1. Britannia running into Dawlish Warren Station hauling the Royal Duchy on the 6th August 2015.

Pic 2. Detail of Air Comrpesssor

That's all for now.

I think I would be more worried about Tornado being the back up engine. We will know for sure later on today.

Gresley had heat-sensitive stink bombs placed in the bearings for warning purposes, I read that this was in Mallard but do not know if they were standard across all A4s.

Pity it wasn't the steam one. Still, never mind. Good video anyway

Sorry chaps. Got ready to go to Dawlish for the Steamer today but checked first and it has been cancelled due to Gauging Issues. Further checking seems to indicate that there will be no more steamers down here this year. If I find out anything different will let you all know. Next pics them will be from my next journey to one or other of the preserved lines, unless of course anything unusual turns up.

Suggestion for October 16-18 weekend

http://www.swanagerailway.co.uk/events/detail/autumn-steam-gala

Good line up if you like Southern! M7 30053, T9 30120, BoB 34070 Manston, U 31806, 4MT 80104 and Sir Lamiel 777 all in steam and U 31625 static

Bit of a trek from Plymouth, but as Swanage is a holiday town should be plenty of B&B/Hotel available either in Swanage itself or Poole/Bournemouth conurbation is only about 20 miles.

Nearest network station is Wareham; Plymouth.Castle Carey, Dorchester/Weymouth Wareham, best journey time about 5.37, probably cost an arm and both legs unless you have some concession card.

Cheers MIKE

One for the Diary. 10th October 2015. HST special trip from Paddington to Buckfastleigh on the South Devon Railway by HST. Should be interesting to see an HST at Buckfastleigh. There will also be a run up to Heathfield with the HST. More details when I get them.
