Here is the mountain all finished, at least with it's construction. There is still lots to do starting with painting, then ground cover, trees, etc.
In talking with my folks last evening we came up with a name for the mountain, "Superstition Mountain". Superstition Mountain has a long shaded past that can supply lots of stories for the railroad.
I didn't get much done today, life got in the way. I did manage to get all of the joints filled in. I think I will let this set around for awhile and start working on something different. I'm getting the urge to scratch build again. It's been quite awhile since I last built a model, and Betty (wife) is wanting me to build a model of our last house. We both really enjoyed living there so it's a good thing to put on the layout.
The layout's name is the South Shore Line residing in Florida, but located in northern Indiana, Superstition Mountain is actually located in Arizona, and our last house was up in Michigan. So the layout encompasses an awful lot of territory, some 2300 miles or so in length and 1200 miles wide. Not exactly to HO scale though.
This layout is permanent DD. Does that tell you anything? Besides moving scares the heck out of me. I'm getting too old for that.
I hope everyone enjoyed watching a mountain form from foam, paper, cardboard, and plaster cloth. I'm sure there are other ways, but this one worked well for me. Plus I used up and awfully lot of scrap stuff that was starting to get in the way. Best of both worlds I guess.
Watching "Superstition Mountain" arrive has been a very enjoyable (and informative) ride Wayne. :thumbs
I think DD is on the wrong tracks here - if ever you do have to move, at least you can move the mountain in bits ……..clever advanced thinking that was.:roll::roll::lol::lol:
I suspect you're a bit like me. I shudder to think how I'd ever move my layout. Maybe they could just use the baseboards for my box……………..:hmm I'm still waiting to see how you get on with the falls and the landscaping. :cheers:cheers
I really thought I would wait for someone else to do a waterfall, then copy it. ;-)
I need to do a lot of research on this before I attempt it. Might even do a practice one first. I really don't want to screw this up by lunging forward. Maybe someone will make a waterfall a months project?
