Kit or Scratch build

Hi sorry took so long to reply (we were away for a few days)
Yes your idea is much in line with mine -was planning to obtain motor from scaletrix car and use a " drive shaft " type system as the winch. I have a telescopic screwdriver which I presently plan to recycle into the hydraulic ram arrangement. The screwdriver is 2.5 mm into 3.00 mm.
Thanks again for your kind assistance
Regards
Ian

Hi - I intend to make the lift structure using plastruct sections for the main structural frame with channel sections for the lift car guide rails.  Both the lift car sides and the shaft will be out of clear plastic to replicate glass. The overall vertical distance is about 40 feet and so the effective lift shaft will be 160 mm high with the operating lift motor housed in a motor room above the shaft and the hydraulic ram (the telescoptic screwdriver or radio aerial) appearing to lift the car.
The use of the scalextric motor removed from a car is being considered as an economy motor which can be easily "reversed" and can readily/hopefully be geared down to operate the lift at a sensible scale speed
Hope that the above makes some sense
Regards

I'd misunderstood your post about the screwdriver Ian.

I thought you mean it telescoped from 2.5mm up to 3mm.  Now I see what you mean - a 2.5mm tube fits inside a 3mm tube …………….  Your reference to a radio aerial released the penny …….:cheers.

It's just that I call "ddolfelin" "DD" rather than Pete so it's nothing strange Ian.

Its OK Pete not at all sensitive and love a joke-thought it was perhaps similar to my wife's accusations that at times I am likened to female parts of DD proportions
