John You have got your modern day canal thinking head on again - Bikes in canals in 1947 unlikely - People had more respect for others property then as no-one had much after the war , the kids had more respect and fear of authority and if there was a bike put in then it would soon be dragged out , done up and put back to use.

I appear to be verging on the euphoric

Lovely use of language John, restored my faith in human nature.  I shall adopt this as my current catch-phrase.

It's right though.

We make a lot of noise about re-cycling these days but not a lot went to waste in 1947.

John,
Just caught up on this thread. Great looking canal you have there. I really like the glossy reflection too. Makes it looks like a calm morning and I loved those.

Now there is someone else who can answer questions on Magic Water!!!!

"Surely it ought to be watertight ???"

Perhaps we can agree on leakproof.
Lots of work on my canal basin but I don't want to disrupt John's thread.

That's good news on the meniscus - because it is a failing on many of the others.
Thanks! Pete.

Superb stuff John!

I used yacht varnish when I attempted a water scene but having seen the reflection on that I will be giving it a shot next time around I think!

Thanks, John.
For now, I'll post some pics of progress on the 'Much Wittering' thread.
Still early days for me.

Silly question:
Is there a 'minimum' pour for Magic Water?
A 6mm depth would suit me nicely in 'N'.

In John's opening post he states he poured to the 'normal' depth of 1/8th inch, which is a shade over 3 mm.

So your 6mm should be fine.

I'm doing a mill scene, do you thing it would 'pour' itself around the bottom of a mill wheel, i.e. is it liquid enough to flow around small details?

[I don't want a revolving wheel, that would be  a bit too 'twee' for me.]

I believe it would……it flowed right up to my lock gates without any additional encouragement

The only problem may be the miniscus effect I referred to which may be a little more apparent with small detail

A revolving wheel would be very static with Magic Water it sets like lacquer. I can allegedly be carved

You could cut the wheel at water level, Doug.

I can see why you are chuffed about the canal water John. It looks superb. The reflection of the girder bridge shows how effective it is. I'm making a note to myself about this for future reference.
