Well,

I am a perfectionist with my own layout, always do my best in all fields and always learning.  By that I mean if my best isnt good enough in 1 field I will learn how to do or understand it better.  For me 'will do' wont do, ever!

Cheers

Jim

PS - I dont like running trains!

As someone who is just starting his first attempt at a layout I am most certainly still learning.  I think I am probably a "frustrated perfectionist".  I see and admire the superb work of others and become somewhat frustrated when I can't achieve the same sort of results.

On the other hand there is a lot to be said for just "playing trains".  I had some highly enjoyable sessions with a friend's Hornby Dublo 3-rail layout and I still have a hankering for one of my own … maybe one day ;-)

I think there should be a comments box, like, "I count other people's rivets, but only if they're female."

I think that to say I'm a perfectionist is near enough to be correct.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

I used to be a virgin, but I wasn't a fanatic about it.

Same here in some ways.  I was put off before I began building by the quality I saw around the shows and the sense that I could never achieve that sort of presentation.

I opted for being realistic over and above several other likely votes.  I am always learning but one of the things I am learning is to keep my time and budget for what is a large layout within realistic bounds.  There are other things in life besides just running trains, wiring up or creating that lovely little scenic corner.

And I still admire the superb work of others and aim to learn how to reach that sort of standard someday.

It seems we're all much the same.:roll:

Like you Rick - a stand in awe of some of the owrk our members turn out (you included !!) and wish I could come close.

Also, like you - living "abroad", everythnig I buy has a fairly hefty postage charge attached and I can't "pop" down to the local model shop to replenish.  When I do buy, by necessity, it tends to be a bit of a "spree" which doesn't please SHMBO who also wants a new pair of Imelda Marcos - sorry, shoes !!

I do try to do my best but I've always been terribly impatient so tend to rush - and regret it forever !!  That was exactly what I did with my efforts on what will eventually be my current layout - the first for around 40 years !!  I rushed,  made mistakes, didn't plan carefully enough and it showed so it's now back in the boxes from whence it came !!  When I start again this winter,  I'll go more steadily but get it right this time :roll:

I'm also sure we're all constantly learning - at least I hope so.  The guy who knows it all can only move one way and that's not, like the song, "up" !!!

I also stuggle to be realistic in my targets.  Yesterday, I thought I might start a correspondence course in brain surgery !!!

The local TAFE is offering a course on decisiveness - but I can't make up my mind whether to go, or not.

I wanted to do one on assertiveness, but Wendy wouldn't let me . . . .   :mutley
