H Class 371

Peter, I think Jeff is saying the Brisbane car is not available, but I know John's range still are.  How many would you like? :mutley He doesn't live far from me - I'm sure I can get a deal for you on 20. :thumbs

Folks, I think that that Brian is a trouble maker . . . :It's a no no

   That's why he was made a moderator.

Well I too hope you get straight onto this, Max. My vote for a road surface would be water putty, but it's a scary job submerging track in it. But I won't find it as scary when you're doing it, so it's not all bad news

Petermac; Leeds has gone the opposite way (so to speak) and are applying guided busways (O-Bahn) technology instead.

As an aside, and completely off-topic: my step-father took me to Temple Newsam several times when I have visited. He reminded me that the gardens were designed by Capability Brown. Unfortunately, he would add, the Leeds City Council kept pulling up beds and putting paths, and pulling up paths and putting beds in. This, he said, was the work of Irresponsibility Smith!

Max,
Lovely pictures.I'm not normally into trams, but I think the similarity of the livery to a GWR coach caught my eye!
There's just no comparison with that gorgeous creature and the "modern"version,IMHO.Looking forward to seeing your model.
     BTW,That grey etch-primer paint stuff…….any details of manufacturers/price????
:hmm

Thanks, John.  What the old H Class lacked in creature comforts - and believe me, they had none, they made up for with style.

The paint is made here by Wattyl.  It's an industrial coating, comes in a 400g spray can and costs A$15.00.  You can have any colour you want, so long as it's grey. :thumbs

I feel like Dr Frank N. Stein.  I am really not a tram person.  It just seemed like a good idea to do a sound project on something simple. :???:

Sorry missed this, thought it was a thread about real life trams, but it's a all singing and dancing tram made by you :Happy

Great little project, but I will predit that the shelf turns into a small layout, with more than one tram running, like the look of the kit, looks very detailed on the moulding, and I am sure that after you have put lights on it ( will it look like one from Blackpool :roll:i )or in it, and fitted a sound decoder ( with the radio on for the driver ) it will be brilliant.

Im with you on this Brian,  If i may so thou Max, what you did to Brian was wrong mate. Making him build the roadway first, i mean you started yours first and he did ask you to show him how, tut, looks like your going to have to shell out if it go's wrong for him, :mutley.

Nice looking tram thou Max, look forward to the rest of the build.

OK  I've been off the air for several days now, installing the lights.  I put 1600 mcd white 3 mm LEDs in the headlight ports and 1.8 mm 30 mcd LEDs next to them for tail lights.  Then I took them out again and fitted the resistors to the individual pairs because the whites need twice the voltage to start them up than do the reds.

Here they are finally mounted.  Oh, and don't rush out to buy the etch primer.  It doesn't stick to a resin kit like it does to moulded plastic - neither does Araldite.  Fortunately CA does!

I also had to fit posts to screw down the bottom plates as the kit design is to glue them and I want to be able to take the body off from time to time.  You can see the Heath-Robinson wiring loom developing.  The headlights are wired to the opposite tail lights and vice versa.  There is also a row of 1.8 mm proto white leds in the roof for the inside lighting.  I still have to run the pair for the pantograph flash LED, so it's going to be a bit busy in there.  The lighting wires will be soldered on to an old decoder plug so I can run the model with the body off.

Once the pantograph flash wires are in, I'll glue them all to the inside of the body to keep them from view.  Even with tracing paper stuck inside the window glass, wires can still throw a shadow if they get too close.

It's turning out to be a marathon build.  The Tenshodo SPUDS still haven't arrived and I received an email from Euro Rail Hobbies today, telling me that the pantograph is now three weeks away (plus a week for postage) due to shortage of supply from the manufacturer.

I wish I knew how tall it will be; then I could start building the overhead on the shelf track.  Oh, well, I guess I'll transfer back to my video of the mine operations.
