Some more from the toy box that might be of interest to 4mm scale modellers



2 different Mercedes vans from Corgi.  Then a Mercedes cab from an unknown maker.  The actual toy came with a car transporter trailer and lots of Pepsi branding.  On the right a Carama VW split screen van.  I intend to convert this into a bay window version for the layout.

Going back to the 'Kleer', I've heard of the stuff curing everything from Athlete's foot to Hadron Collider leaks…..


Viz a viz windows -

 Just how long does it take to dry and take hold on the lorry windscreens and does it work to glue plastic strip and card strip to acetate sheet for buildings?

Ordinarily, were I to be in UK I'd just go and buy some to try it out, but it may make a costly postage jobby to SW France.

Its a floor polish so it dries pretty quick.  Its best that the window is a tight enough fit to hold itself in place anyway while the Klear does its thing.

Remember my Leyland tippler from further up the page?

Well I couldn't find any Tarmac transfers and attempts to match a DIY transfer to the body colour were a dismal failure.  However these vehicles carried other colours, one of which was ARC



Much easier to create the transfers for this one! More to do.

     any chance of us seeing your etching set-up? I studied Illustration at Manchester Poly,and we did etchings,to print pictures from,obviously,but I wonder how the process differs when you are producing parts for models.Also…where do you source the acid and stuff???

Come on Jim, tell me about the transfer paper……..I'm looking at producing a transfer to put on pub windows [i.e. acetate sheets…] with 'Saloon bar', 'Fine wines and Spirits' etc. to imitate the flouro-etched windows of 1930-50s pubs.

Printing acetates is very hit and miss, having thought about 'Klear' polish etc., this might be the way to go.  Sol might even consider using the stuff for the D+S logos……do tell!

It might even enable me to do a van with

'Fred Fanackerpan's Famous Nack%er Lacquer' on it. (It adds lustre to your cluster and glamour to your hammer….)

Picked up some more vehicles to butcher yesterday, Jim.

This is one:



It's Ledo and slightly overlarge perhaps.
However, when I've attacked it I think I may get away with it.

I want to make it a private owner country bus from the 1960s.
Passengers, thinner glazing bars, milliput, glazing, reg. plates, lights, paint and transfers - and possibly some round mirrors - will help with the illusion.

Of course, I could just buy one of the right type but that would be cheating.

If members are using an inkjet printer Jim then have you any idea how many transfers they could expect to get out of the £18.80 pack?

That link was interesting Jim, I copied the URL & sent it to some friends & one ISP here in Oz found inbuilt into the link, e-mail addresses in the UK & rejected the e-mail
