New member saying hi, and first post.
Good morning all;My first post, as I've just joined. My name is Andrew. I have been a railway modeller for over 55 years, starting with Hornby Dublo for my 3rd birthday, and working through many scales and genres over the years.
I have come down to working with small layouts, simply because I have not the time, space or resources to work on anything bigger. And I enjoy working on industrial, switching, and first mile - last mile layouts.
Thanks to Alan for letting me join in the community.
All the best and see you around the boards

Love your work. I drive by there several times a week on the city circle. You've nailed the entrance to Flinders Street Station.
Do you by any chance know Glenn Corbett? He also models Melbourne trams.
You can see his Victoria Street layout at the link.
Thanks for the welcome.

'Victoria Street' has been a great inspiration for me and partly the reason I decided to do trams instead of trains. The main reason tough is a tramway can be modelled in less space than a proper train layout. Wombat Creek Tramways is a modest layout which (hopefully) can be moved too another location in just two sections.
Cheers,
Claus

Glenn is a great mate of mine (and a former workmate / tram driver).
He is a great modeller to boot.
Thanks for getting back to me. Hopefully, once we can get on with life again, we can all get together and talk trams and layouts over a couple of drinks and a meal..

There are no silly questions here except the one you never ask. There is always an answer waiting. We also like to see what you are up to.
Dive in, share photos, join the banter. There's a link to my work (including the now-closed layout I had in Oz) in my signature below.

Thanks Michael;Welcome Andrew. I really enjoy seeing small layouts come to life….. so will be following along.
Michael
I'm in the process of building a layout on a door at the moment. I talked to Lance Mindheim a while back about it. I've never made use of the hollow core door for a layout board. Speaking with Lance helped me understand what he does. I've adapted his procedures - modifying them with my knowledge and skills - and am working through that build process right now.
When I get a chance next weekend (with three days off in a row - WooHoo!!!) I'll dig out some of the photos I've taken and post them up for the group to see.
Getting ready to go back out on the rails early tomorrow. There's a fair bit of the layout build process written up on my layout design site already. You can read about the process of design and build here.
More later on.

Rick;Hi Andrew and welcome from an one-time ex-pat Pom who spent 17 years around Melbourne. I made good friends through this club and met some who made long interstate trips to visit the layout and ourselves. That speaks volumes about this place.

Thanks for the welcome. Funnily, earlier on today I looked at both links while noodling around on the site. Nice work on both.
As I've said in an earlier post, I'll be sure to post up pictures and so on here. Most of my writing I do on my main layout design site, and then post a selection of pictures and general overview to the forums I inhabit. Links take readers to the main content if they are interested in reading a lot more content.
Talk to you more later on.

Best,

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

Thanks Matt;Welcome aboard Andrew, good to have you with us ! I use Hollow core doors, but mainly as a liteweight base to support Floating layout boards. I'll pop over to your site for a look when I get a spare few minutes , :thumbs
Cheers
Matt
I've seen others who use them as shelves also. I thought I'd give them a try (it was only 30 odd dollars from the local hardware store). Not sure I'll use them again. I mainly make my own.
Thanks for reviewing the information, when you get a chance.
