Re the slatted van, I thought so. They would have been used for churn traffic I'm thinking, which was no longer in use by the 60s. Just thinking of another vehicle for my milk train.
Even this: http://www.crtkits.gbr.cc/product.php/667790/ would probably no longer be carrying milk in the early 60s. I scratch built a chassis for the Hornby model in 4mm.
Curious how you would go about building a 4 wheel brake from Kirk parts. I didn't see anything other than bogie coaches on the list. Cut and shut?

Apparently Ian used to list it as a kit but he withdrew it because a mould broke and he could no longer do some bits. Yes I had a to cut and shut one of the pieces to make up each side and I need to remove some of the vents above the doors to make them toplights
This should hopefully show the beading that I have re-instated after my cut/shut.

The D&S kit is the only one that I am aware of, I nearly bought one from the Bring and buy at Telford about 3 years ago but I realised that the seller was asking more for a part built kit than I could have got one from Danny for.
Although I have't built the BY120, I do have a few D&S kits in my stash and they have been excellent to build so far.
Edited to add I look forward to seeing your Thompson Brake build, I really fancied one until I realised that although designed by Edward Thompson they weren't built until after nationalisation and two or three years after ET had retired.

Given the high regard that D&S kits have, someone should have taken over the range I think. Some of the 4mm range is in the hands of LRM.

I think that you have been misinformed. Danny Pinnock still has the 7mm range (he's due at Kettering next month) and he also still has the brass kits in his 4mm range and has been re-releasing them of late.
From what I gather it's his former range of 4mm scale whitemetal kits that are with Wizard and I believe that the odd items are with specialist societies too - I am pretty sure that the Great Central society has some.
He only does a handful of shows and mail order by the old fashioned way - post/telephone. Although I have had things mail order I much prefer to browse his stand at shows. Thinking about it, CRT had some of his range on their stand at the Guild summer show a few times because I bought an NER horsebox via CRT a few years ago. I haven't seen them recently though.

The brakes and yokes are now fitted to all three bogies. not exactly like the real thing but will pass muster hidden away underneath the coach.

We had decided to try the Sparmac queen posts from Invertrain while all the other fittings (vac tanks, roof vents, grab handles etc.) came from JLRT late last year before they closed although they look similar the key different in the Sparmac queen posts is the fact that they don't have holes for the truss rods to go through. I popped them with a punch, deepend the mark with a pin vice and then used my Proxxon Pillar drill to finish them off. Sadly taking the photos has just highlighted to me that I have missed drilling through one the holes so I will need to do that one by hand since they are now stuck firmly on.
I also added the vacuum tanks.

What I kept were, chop saw, Router/router table and a linisher. The Router/router table, until a couple of weeks ago was in my loft so not accessible for regular use and my linisher while slightly more accessible by being under my workbench had only seen the light of day once in the last 5 years.
Prompted by getting something out of the loft I decided to get the Router/router table and the linisher out and take them to the other house where I have a dry brick built garage that's alarmed. Fast forward to this weekend and I decided to start making use of them so used the linisher to prepare all the partitions for the twin set. Each one needed to be profiles to fit the vacuum formed Kirk roof and it certainly made a much easier job of the 17 or so partitions plus the coach ends.
I reckon what I achieved today would have taken at least a couple of weekend's work to achieve filing by hand.

The plan is to make the roofs removable by screwing into the base of the seats that are attached to the roof.

I was a bit remiss in not cutting out for the ducket while I had the sides in the flat but I managed.
We now have one of my silhouette cut duckets fitted. This in fact the second attempt because I was a bit heavy handed with polystyrene cement last weekend and the first effort just melted away - this one is stuck more patiently with limonene.
I had also prepped some scrap etch for the mounting brackets for the dynamos last weekend and I got those fitted too although from the photo one of them need a minor tweak to it's shape.
