Hi,

A bit of an update. One I had to come of my diabetes medication on Monday night as they were not agreeing with me at all. Since Friday evening up until Monday evening I had been experiencing an increasing feeling of depression. I was struggling to speak with my own family at times and just wanted to shut off. They had noticed the change in mood swings etc so ……. Off the tablets I came. Now feeling back to normal as far as that goes although the constant tiredness / exhaustion is still a problem.

I was due an appointment with the Nurse today with reference to the diabetes. As far as I was aware it was to discuss diabetes ( the facts ) and the required changes in dietary habits.
I was told to allow an hour for this as it was my first appointment specifically for the condition. I was also to get my blood taken for the Cholesterol tests as well.

What a waste of time. I informed her about the medication and fair enough she went to consult with one of the doctors who advised of the required change needed. This also requires constant monitoring of my blood sugar levels as apparently the medication can cause it to drop sharply and suddenly. So I will now have my own monitor.

Apart from that she spoke away in half sentences jumping from one thing to another making absolutely little sense and using far to many medical terms and abbreviations which I was clueless about. Any time I tried to speak, she spoke over the top of me and gave the impression that she just was not listening.

Total summary of advice was " if you take three sugars in your coffee, cut it down to one and a half " and " oh your eating more fruit and veg, that's good, watch the fruit as some are very sugary "

I have a sight test on the 3rd of August and  an appointment with the diabetes specialist ( a GP ) an appointment to which the nurse is also present ( so she tells me ).

I'll pick up the prescription hopefully tomorrow ( more time off ) and the monitor, go to the chemist , get the tablets etc and will hopefully be on my new regime by the weekend at the latest.

My Medical practice is usually ok with no real cause to complain ( apart getting past Atilla the Hun at receiption ). But I have to say that between communication errors for appointments ( to which they have admitted the blame for ) and today's abysmal performance I'm not happy. Complete shambles.

Does sound a bit of a shambles Tom, hope they've changed your medication to one that's got less side effects!
Me, Blood pressure tablets morning and night and no statin's! Got a revue next month so see what that brings!!

Hopefully you'll get a clean bill of health. You can handle Blood Pressure tablets if that's the only thing so long may you keep well mate.

My woa's will change. Maybe have the conditions but they will eventually be manageable and under control.

I went for blood tests at the local general hospital at the beginning of June for Cholestoral & Diabetes, I have chased them 3 times so far for the results, I just keep getting told they are behind with the typing.

Seems more than one hospital is a shambles.

 

Its no wonder the NHS is so strained with all the inefficient appointments and screw ups.

On a brighter note ……….. I'm top of the world today. Still got to start the new tablets though once I pick them up so I'll shut up for now. I hope this carries on through the weekend. I'll be finished the R & GLR and started a plank.

Very similar situation here Sol.  It has unfortunately, got slower recently.  Last year, I'd go to the laboratory in our nearby town - 7 miles away,  (often without an appointment but usually with a prescription from the Doc).  If it was early morning, they'd drain my arm straight away, if later on, I might have to wait anything up to half an hour to 40 minutes.  I'd go back to the lab at 5pm to collect my results which they'd have a quick run through with me either confirming I'd see the night out or to go to the Doc immediately ………..  Now, they send them by post to me and e-mail to the Doc.  I'd have to wait up to 2 days for the results of a test today although the chances are, they'd be in my postbox the day after the test.

Knock the French all you like but I've never come across a healthcare system as quick and efficient. 

Seeing a specialist privately is another matter.  In those cases, you might have to wait up to 2 months for an appointment.  I had just such a case when I needed (or rather, my doctor needed) me to see a cardiologist.  I had to wait 6 weeks for an ECG which he then went through immediately informing me he needed to do an echography to see what the problem actually was and could I come back for it tomorrow !!!!  I did, it was done and again, I walked out of his clinic with the scans, already explained to me,  and a letter to my GP under my arm.  Vive la France !!!!

I turned up for a 10am appointment, eventually got called in about 2.1/2 hours later, did all the family history and diet talks then started to send me away, I said I thought you were going to do a blood test, the Doctor then said Oh yeah, and sent me to the other side of the hospital for it, another 3/4 hour wait to get that done.

Think I may need to move out of the UK….

We might be able to have a system like that if we didn't have to treat half the world's population , who have never paid a penny towards it and, it seems encouraged by the french gendarmes to get here at all costs.NIMBY springs to mind.:Red Card:Red Card:Red Card

All these tales of woe remind me of my last appointment to see an eye consultant. The 'trainee' got very agitated as I didn't have a doctor (haven't had an Nhs one for 30 years as I've lived all over the shop). She virtually screamed at me that she couldn't do her job as they have an agreement that only my doctor can issue a  2nd  prescription …? Apparently its all about who's budget it comes out of! In the end I had to take her to task (making me look like a grump). So how do 'new visitors' get on? …. ok rant over hope all goes well toto

Started the new tablets this morning ……… all well so far. Early days I know but its encouraging. Yesterday I felt like I could take on the world again and got through most of the household chores paving the way for what I think will be a productive weekend. I'm back in a good place. OK the tablets could still screw me up yet but the early signs are good so lets be positive and think progress.

All going well there will be a few boring pictures of soldered cables etc but hey ……. I'll post em anyway. the fact that something is getting done turns even the most mundane tasks into a joy ( nearly )

It'll be a Saturday start as its curry night tonight Chilli Chicken to be exact. Hope the ventilation in the shed isn't blocked up. You never know, I may even see delivery of my new Class 66's. Further incentive.

                         Well, had to have an ultrasound scan for possible rupture, turns out its just ME!!:???::shock::lol:, still, while i was there i asked if they could do the full, mmmmmm, MOT shall we say and, my prostate is fine but large, but, that what we men get as we get older, thankfully i am NOT pregnant, :shock::shock::roll:, wife happy,:lol::lol::lol:, but, have two small gallstones, so, when i get to see my MD/Dr, and, having googled what meds i should have re the NHS site, i will be going with my shopping list, O, and i am now down to 16.5, same as when i was 20, now, if i could cobble all this together at my age now and use the enlargement but for what we men hold dear to at that age:shock::shock:;-), the wife and i would be very happy indeed……:):lol::lol::lol::lol:;-):roll:.
                           It's now back to the layout building full speed as such ahead, but, i still wonder/worry as to what will be the next issue, then again, that's i believe human nature i guess……:);-)……………

A bit of a mixed bag there Tom but all manageable. Will they zap the gallstones ?

As you say ….. You wonder what's coming next but you are better shutting your mind off to it until such times as you are aware of any potential issue otherwise you would probably worry yourself into an early grave.

Also keep in touch ( and in favour ) with the Doc. The odd check now and again can help avoid some potential situations.

I never, ever try Googling health matters.  It is akin to reading Blake's Medical Dictionary in the old days - you had every disease known to man and would almost certainly not see the week out.

I leave these things to the doctors - if they know what they're doing, fine - if they don't, then I'm unlikely to be here to care about it …………..

Peter, is that what they mean by practicing:???::???:, if so, i'll come back after they know what they are doing :lol::lol::lol:, Tom, NO, i think they will do as my mate has had, liquid dissolver, and, nature doing what it does best mate;-); looking at ALL the tests i have had over the last years or so and very recent, can't see any others for the near time, so, its modelling time…………..
