As always, I'm enjoying your updates Novice, although we'll have to start calling you "ex-novice", as your results exclude you from the novice category :!:  :!:

I think 'Novice' should seriously consider changing his name! Terrific stuff. I like these little cameos.  :D

In fact the real culprits lurk behind a bush - they are the Vicar's boys who spend much of their spare time playing near the farm:  :)
Shocking behaviour, eh, Jeff :?:

More operations.  I have been running a busy schedule through Middleton which sees 4 DMU stopping services calling in at the station and some 8 express passenger through services each day.  The passenger services are interspersed with freight workings, which are held in the long sidings at Upton when priority passenger services come through.  Trains with up to 11 wagons make a fine sight as they rattle through the station and then snake through the cutting.  Great fun :!:  :)

A class 20 pulling a rake of vent vans comes through the cutting:

A class 25 with oil tankers in tow is running from the Deepdale oil depot heading towards the docks at Upton Pier:

As a "scenery freak", perhaps I could persude you into a brief "how to" on the way you did your field texture (in the photo mentioned by Bob).
I'm always willing to pick up tips from the way others do scenic work :!:

OK, Jeff/Bob, I'll put something in the scenery section in the next day or so.

I too like the texture of that field, it looks a bit like you've layered the colours with a dirt style of scatter at the bottom and then greens on top. Looking forward to your "how to" on this one.
cheers

With all the work being done in the Middleton area of the layout, I thought it might be worth showing how the layout is developing elsewhere.

Here's the track plan to help orientate you when you view the pictures:

An important task has been the installation of the gradients.  This will allow scenic work to start on the Dunton tunnel area and around Deepdale, which is likly to be the next area to receive attention.  Here is an overview of the whole layout.  Most progress has been at the back, in the Middleton area:

Next is a view of Upton Pier station and goods complex.  The track plan is sorted and the track is being fixed down.  The station platforms have been positioned and tested:

The same applies to Dunton Castle station.  Now the embankments are installed the roadways can be firmed up and the track fixed in position:

Finally the area of Deepdale has evolved, which consists of a small country terminus station and an oil storage and distribution point.  I have changed the track plan here in order to make better use of the available space and to allow road access to both station and oil depot.  Behind can be seen the beginnings of the tunnel and hill scenic section, which is being constructed from expanded polystyrene packing material.

I am having second thoughts about the Hornby station buildings and I am scouting around for alternatives, but they will have to do for now.

Novice, I noticed that you are not using cork under the track. Is that because of the gradient material?
Neat looking layout, I can't help but sit here and wonder what year it will be when mine looks something like that. :(  :(
Keep the pictures coming, really enjoy them.
