Hi,
After a nine year hiatus, I have recommenced posting but the formatting is all to cock.

A link has gone badly wrong and the paragraph spacing is non-existent, can someone step forward and explain what I doing wrong? Btw, I am now a retiree using a tablet rather than the desk top PC from an office.

And yes, I am inserting spaces between the paragraphs but when I hit the send, it looks awful but not on my layout thread, this post is spot-on……….

I too use a tablet from time to time Tim - mine's not an Apple tablet so can't help if yours is but tablets don't appear to be the best for compatibility on the forum.

Re paragraph spacing - I have to hit "return" three times on mine to get the correct spacing but not on my desktop !

Re spaces between the photos - I suggest you try that too - i.e. 3 "returns" instead of the normal 2 - and see what that does.

Others are far more techie than I so will be along soon to put you right ………………………. :cheers

Same with my kindle.
Double space gives this. Always check with preview and adjust. No need issues with my laptop.

Hi Tim and welcome back !
The Software we use is a legacy product, no longer supported by the original writers. It was written for the PC, pretty much before Tablets and Phones were being used for web browsing and has never really been upgraded. ( And almost certainly never will be !)
We run it as a legacy service to keep YMRC running and although its a bit quirky it still chunters along  :) (A bit like some of fhe members  :mutley)

So Formatting. . .I find using a tablet or phone it's best to hit return at least 3, 4 or even 5 times between Paragraphs and in between pictures to space things out. It seams that the first 1 or 2 just disappear ? Then use preview to check the spacing has actually worked as you want before hitting send.

Links. . . You need to use the link button ( third blue button along ?) Which you find at the top of the reply box, its 2 little links joined together. When you click on it you see a box open with a text box to post your link in. The box contains the start of a web link http//. But just delete this and then paste in the link you want to use and click ok. Another box opens and you can put whatever text you want to appear AS your blue lnk, OR just paste in the Web link if THATS what you want to appear and again click ok.  This will post your link. . As a blue link in your post.
(I'm sure you figured this out and I'm probably teaching how to suck eggs but this might help others who don't know ?)

HTH

Cheers

Matt

I usually use shift+enter twice to get the desired spacing. The shift makes it a "hard break" which the software usually recognises and won't try to collapse into one line feed only (a problem that occurs with HTML as well).

Today’s upload on the layout thread went reasonably well, at the outset I changed the font size and tried to create spacing by hitting the return three times. Then checked the preview, it looked good but when I hit the send button the opening line of the post decided that it would change with the words ‘spacing’ at the start and end of the paragraph and it would revert to size 2 rather than the selected size 4 font.

There is no bottom line, well not yet, but I am learning to cope and enjoying the experience.

In short, a rather lovely community, happy to be a part.

Hi Tim,

I suspect the issue is down to the software on the device you are using. More specifically Android.  I use the laptop for my own threads as I transfer text, Windows 11, no issues. Plus I often need access to greek/french/scientific letters/symbols.

Hi Tim,
Same issues I suspect. Pads do not appear to have the gear that full size OS have. One of the compromises that anybody with a pad lives with I suspect.

Hi,

Just a couple of queries. Is there a search facility for the site?

And…….

When uploading a fairly long description, I have confronted with a warning that there was an unexpected attachment, no other explanation. OK, so I hit the return to the posting in order to look at the attachment only to be greeted by a blank posting…….all text deleted.

Is this a glitch with the forum software and it auto-deletes the text when returning edit the mistake?

Hi,

i just noted that my last posting contains formatting errors that were not apparent when I hit the send, anyone care to explain?

Thanks

Hi BR

You may want to send Matt (Barchester) a PM about this in case he doesnt pick this up. He is the go to guy and is normally very good at sorting stuff out.

I am afraid I cant really help with the formatting issues. If the text descriptions were in *.jpeg format they would need re-sizing - I have fallen into that trap on occasion.

Hope you get it sorted
