My name is Daryll , I reside nr Petersfeild , my main Interest is the Southern railway around 1950/60.
I was tempted by Hornby`s TT 120 , until it dawned on me , it could take years for Southern EMU stock to be available
I shall stick to 00 gauge

Re TT I'd agree, the Hornby decision to open activities on a new front is "courageous" and open ended. Ask those waiting for newer versions of many 40+yr old OO Gauge products where there'd be a keen demand for something made to today's standards.

TT:120 has affected a lot of people in the same way - those if us deeply engrained in OO or N are unlikely to change although, as the scale matures, I bet a fair few of us will build a small layout!!

  TT, if successful, can only ever grow with the younger generations, which is borne out by Hornby's train set sales philosophy. Horses for courses though and it just may get a foothold on the market and leave 00 to manufacturer's who take it much more seriously.

Like many others, had I been starting out, TT 120 would have been ideal but I'm not so it isn't !!

I think Hornby are very forward thinking in it's introduction - those just starting out on the journey will delight at the scale - as I did many, many moons ago when Triang produced it.  You can get far more into a given space than with "OO" and it's not as small and fiddly as "N".

However, for now, in UK outline, "OO" Gauge still reigns supreme.

Hornby's decision to sell TT120 products direct to customers, thereby cutting out any independent retailers, means that you will be paying top prices every time.  This decision may mean that TT120 has a very short life as other smaller manufacturers decide to pull out rather than be subject to the whims of Hornby as the main player in this new scale.  Indeed Heljan have already cancelled their intended TT120 loco and have announced that they will concentrate on their 00 models instead.
