Plenty of useful references plus some trivia.
 
You can for instance learn that most UK wooden sleepers are softwood and need a preservative but that the London Underground uses Jarrah - a West Australian hardwood and a very fine timber.


I haven't looked thru the main Railway-Technical site but bound to be more of interest.
