Weathering powders (dark greys and blacks) over matt dark brown should produce some grimy realism.

It might be US but it shows the treatment that a lot of bins don't get…the outside uprights etc are 'wevvered wood' colour as coal is not piled up against them….

You've probably painted the bunker but just thought I would throw into consideration what I did with a similar Wills Kit.

This is my coal bunker - After priming, I used Colron woodstain, and then used a mixture of Dark Earth and White Humbrol weathering powders for most of the wood, then using Humbrol "Smoke" for the areas where heavy coal dust would build up. Looking at it, I could have used more "smoke" and got away with it!!! Not great pics.
