Crane for unloading Conflat wagons

Hi Modellers. I have purchased a "Pickfords" conflat, and I was thinking about "how do you remove it from the wagon?" Simple, use a crane, but what type?  One possibility is a "Vollmer Crane" but maybe a bit OTT .
Can any member offer advice on "Vollmer" or an alternative.

Sounds like a routine job for your yard crane Kevin. Plenty to chose from, Wills for example.

Cheers,

Bill :)

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

Hi Kevin,

Here is a link to assist you

Traditional Container Traffic - Photos from the NRM - UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!) - RMweb

via RM web.

If empty they can be lifted with a heavy yard crane; there were some lugs at the top edge (and strengthening strips diagonally on the sides). Into those lugs a chain would fit and lift it off the conflat.

The link shows the chains etc.

Yours Peter.
