Diesel Refuelling Point

Another quart in a pint pot!
I do like those Model U figures Terry - great detail but they can be ruined by poor quality painting (don't ask how I know ……

I'm sorry but I just don't like the Bachmann weathering on the Class 08 - plenty of pretty decent looking "track dust" but not a speck of oil or grease !! It might pass for "clean" mainline passenger coaches but not at all for motive power - steam or diesel.
To me, the fist thing one notices about these shunters (unless they've just come out of the paint shop, in which case, they wouldn't have the track dust either), is the black oil/diesel spillage/leakage which has collected in every groove and taken the overall paint colour down to a sort of "dark" whatever. Similarly, mucky grease splashes wherever grease is applied, particularly "winding" around the con-rod bearings. The last thing they ever were in use, was remotely clean ! Give it a heavy black wash and it will be transformed ……………..IMHO of course………..

My comments were just my general opinion of "factory weathered" stock, particularly motive power and pointing out why I hold that opinion - not a suggestion that you shouldn't use this or that.
Many people disagree with my opinions and that doesn't bother me in the least - what does bother me is that they don't realise they're wrong !!!

I will certainly look forward to your tutorials on weathering locos when you start - alas, this is a case of "do as I say and not as I do" - I have had a half-hearted attempt at weathering an 08 using nothing more that panel liner so hopefully I'll learn something from you.

Thank you both. Very kind of you. Well, London Road Sidings performed well on the first day of the Thamesmead show. Some really nice comments, with one chap saying that he thought it was the most inspirational layout at the show. A number of visitors liked it because they felt that they could do something similar in a small space. The hand-held controller was offered to anybody who showed an interest and a number appeared to have an enjoyable time doing a bit of shunting. My opposite number Matt, who is a far superior shunter than yours truly, also proved that he has a better knowledge of how the layout was built than the builder! And a bonus! The layout has been invited to the 2026 Canterbury Exhibition. Looking forward to exhibiting again tomorrow.Ed said
