As some of you may know, I'm not a great fan of card models but I have to admit, that looks really good. Nice work, Ron. :thumbs

It looks really 'heavy' and substantial - just the way it should.

Rail & sleepers painted a flat brown & ballasted

Taken from Charde end.

The next one is at the other end looking towards the point & junction. Right hand track goes to Durston underneath Charde.

3 locos, Dave, that is it- coz I do like those small diesels.  I obtained them from my mate who still has 3 plus a load of carriages that Murphys models released.

Hi Ron

Just read the full thread - Nice one.

As for the flatness of the card, as a test I tried printing on to textured watercolour paper (off cuts from my local art shop) with the stone dock side walls and it made a vast difference, just enough to stop it looking flat.

Surprisingly Paul, that random Ashlar stone does not give the imprssion of flattness in the model- photos do not show it the best though.

Pete, I thought this photo ( yes slightly out of focus) will give you the idea of space for double tracks.
I set the  tracks with 6ft way between centre rails = 24mm so centre- centre is 40mm & a bit close on each arch side

With some minor effort & time, you could add say another 1/2"/ 12mm in width to the top of the arch .

Cheers for checking Ron it is a bit tight which is a shame, i was sat on a plate girder bridge the other day so plan B, Plate girder spanning the rails and the viaduct arches either side. I need the arches cos one side is having a garage on a street scene not original i know.

Still watching your mini Ribbleshead

:thumbs

Hi Pete,

I realise this is an old thread but, for future reference, to increase the arch width you could print the Scalescenes kit at say 10% oversize which should then give you the extra sideways clearance you need. It would be slightly overscale but not enough to be noticable. Increasing the height of the support pillars would also increase the side clearance.

Nice piece of work Sol. :thumbs

It was about time I did some more to the viaduct & surrounds as it is the focal point upon entering the layout room so so far I have done the base for the marshland under the viaduct. The "water" will be shallow & full of junk, etc, & will be either coat or two of varnish or Magic Water

plaster was still wet and now painted a tan colour.

the far end by the tunnel mouth

now with some colour added ( glue still wet !)

bit by bit, this will change to the better hopefully.

Blimey. Nothing for 2½ years and then a sudden burst of progress.

Looking very good though Ron and should be a real feature when finished.

It's looking really good sol.  What a difference that bit of green has made. :thumbs

Is the plaster just "plaster" ?  It looks a bit like baked meringue with that browny/pinky tinge.  Here, plaster would normally be be white. :thumbs

Looking forward to seeing the marsh take shape - a great idea. :thumbs:thumbs

yes Peter,  normal white plaster with coloured poster powders added so that if it gets chipped. not so white looking.
then painted with a tan colour and the occasional dark brown wash before adding grass colours, etc

bit more done…  purchased a tin of gloss clear paint today to try over the weekend after a lot of "junk, etc" added into the watery areas.
