Hi Sol,  if you put 'Lavender Line' in the forum  search you'll find that signal box under the 'ABM' entry.

Alun has been poorly, I don't  know if he's  back on lie yet…

OK, so while it has been suggested by various people  on & off YMR about the  location of the signal cabin, having it between tracks as per the USA box,  it just fits

I am not sure if this would be correct?
The track the blue loco is on a head shunt for MPD and the Irish orange loco is on the main platform track and trains are only running slowly as they enter/leave anyway.

I will admit I do prefer this Scalescenes cabin to the USA outline for this station.

And it has been pointed out that the steps would not be that close to the tracks - Safety!!

Would extending the platform over the lower steps solve that issue?

A couple of possibilities Brendan, something I have been musing over the last couple of hours and having steps at right angles- just got to convince myself, the clearances will be OK.

Just like these steps  http://www.metcalfemodels.com/signal-box-kit

I found one cabin reasonably close - approx. 5 ft away from rails
Image

From the footbridge, the original GWR signalbox survives, with some reasonably unobtrusive replacement double-glazing, plus two lower-quadrant semaphores (unusually, complete with finials) which have been in these positions for many years. The siding is a vestigial remnant of the station's goods depot which closed in the early 1960s. To the left of the left-hand platform, vegetation has completely overtaken the small coaling point for steam locomotives.

My model would be about 3-4ft only

Probably the minimum 6ft regulations Sol and it hasn't track to front and rear.

Ed, with that regulation taken into account... Would my suggestion solve the problem, or would it still count as being too close?

Found this useful.

http://www.gauge0guild.com/manual/07_D7_1_1.pdf

Possibly get away with 4' 6" clearance, but not so sure if front and back.

I aim for 6' same as clearance for any platform structures.

There isn't enough room for the point rodding redirection cranks at the base of the box between the track and the wall if it's still a mechanical linkage. If it's electric motor actuated points and signals then anyone working on the cable pit is going to require spotters and possibly engineers possession of the track section unless the cable pit goes under the platform.
It's really cosy Ron. Does that Irish loco get by without fouling the roof line of the box?
How about putting the box ON the platform?

Still a clearance problem with the platform edge Marty.

I'm in agreement with John and Owen, looks better in the original position.

Regardless of "Elf and Softy", I don't like it there - it looks far too "jammed in as an after thought" - "toy train" like where everything usually looks out of kilter rather than a model railway.

A solution has been found - a rough version will be built to test the location - may not get built today but.....

Ron, like the concept. Taller still to allow the box to be above the standard loading gauge height?
