R010

The D&S needs two of these - one each end of Tawnton

so they will be built together at the same time.

Excellent, looking forward to the build. They've always looked a bit flat featured  to me, don't know why. I'd be interested in your opinion?

Cheers

Yes, it will indeed be an interesting build.

I tend to agree with Marty here - I don't think it's one of Mr Wiffen's best models somehow, although I've never seen it "in the flesh" ………

I think it`s the bars in the window glazing.???
If they were a light colour it would transform the look of the model.
You could always do the weather boards and the roof tiles in layers Ron…..that would give it some texture.???
Looking forward to how you approach the build.':cheers  Gormo

Something else for my ham fists to knock over in moments of crisis during operating sessions, Sol.

It does look good, though.

I too thought that the window glazing was the culprit.

Well, come on Ron, you're normally finished by now! :pedal

I agree re the window bars. maybe taking Doug's (Chubber) approach with sticky labels is the way to go ??

Cheers, Gary.

Excuses, excuses, excuses.  You're all the same you Aussies - it's the same when we whop you at cricket, and tennis, and rugby ………………………….:roll::roll::mutley:mutley

Sorry to hear the sciatica is back Sol - hope it's not as bad as last time. I have a few aches and pains but fortunately, nothing as constant (or severe) as sciatica.  Do painkillers do much good or do you just have to grit your teeth until is wears off ?

Friday, it was rotten so took some anti-inflammatories/pain killers by mid-day, so so - Saturday  still rotten but not quite as bad, this morning slightly better & right now 10PM quite good.

Quite good sounds much better Ron, but Sunday is the traditional day of rest, so don't rush and hopefully you'll be fighting fit to get stuck in tomorrow. I've been there myself with sciatica and wow, it was truly debilitating, so hope you feel better and better.

Take it easy,

Bill

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

OK, taking into account a comment or two about how "flat" it may look, I tried to emulate the clapboard siding ( as advised by John Wiffen) with 80gsm paper

and then on 200gsm card

still not impressed so I have just with a thin pencil, darkened the lines between planks and I think that will do as both cabins will be 24-30" ( 60-75cm) away from the operators/

Now, I'm not sure if John Wiffen would be impressed or not, but could you replace the walls with styrene ? Evergreen Styrene do weatherboard (clapboard) in various groove spacings.

Evergreen Styrene product code : 4081 has a 2mm spacing and 4101 has a 2.5mm spacing.

       Cheers, Gary.

I did use Styrene metal siding on my diesel depot as the paper method was not ideal - I will wait to see how this one looks first  but thanks for the codes Gary - saves me looking them up.

Geez, they're solid beasts aren't they?

I reckon the fine pencil line should do it, if you invoke the three foot rule.

Maybe one of each?

Some more done - steps take a while as the steps are all individual pieces to be glued.
Bending cardboard into 90 degrees is no fun as the card can split the wrong way - thank heavens for corner  elements

this photo shows where the cabin will be based on Operators viewpoint

so any minor blemish may not get noticed ( hopefully)
