I too loved the vid - it took an age to watch but was well worth it.  Apart from the acrobatics, there were some superb shots of industrial deacay and weathering ideas.

That's a good one Martin but I'm not quite sure how it should be used. For model railways only, entertainment or a mix of both. It's certainly a good idea though. Personally I would go for entertainment, music, comedy, that sort of thing. We need peoples thoughts on this. We do already have videos of models in members posts so I don't think there is much to be gained from adding even more.

I will agree with you Bob, entertainment outside of railways.

We have already posted many links in Shunters Return for a variety of Entertainment.

We do have sections devoted to videos, both model and prototype so there should be a handy permanent record there.

Now, here's a proposal for discussion.

You seem to have an amazing knack of finding some really excellent footage Martin.  How's about you select a "Video of the Week" and, at the end of the week, it's moved to the appropriate place - "model rail vids" or "prototype vids" to join our video library ?

Afterall, you don't have much else to do do you ? 

Whilst we do have our own video threads, I think if we could have videos like these two as a "Video of the Week", it would be a great bit of entertainment for a few mninutes (or hours if you have to wait as long as I do for it all to buffer :twisted::twisted: - but these two suggest the wait is well worth it)

In "my day" the signalman had a rag in his hand - I think to stop blisters forming - and had to heave really hard on the big levers.  Not like those whimps in that box - it looked like turning on a tape recorder (if anyone remembers those ……………)

I think this is a brilliant new feature Martin.  Vid of the week (the acrobatic biker) was very entertaining & even had a (tenuous) railway link.  The other vids in this thread also very enjoyable.  You are certainly making your presence felt & the other 'tweaks' you have made are also improving the site.  Keep up the good work.  Mal

Any chance of directions to advice on how to upload videos to the site?

Mine is entitled 'Brief Encounter' because it's only about 8 seconds long.

At the moment it's on my camera.
The computer is asking for a firewire connection to the camera which it won't get because the camcorder doesn't have firewire.
On the camera it is recorded on the Hard Disc but I've no idea of the format.
It's HD and loads to the HD TV via an HMDI port.
I have no difficulty loading stills to the computer via USB2 (and thence to the forum) but may have difficulty in loading movies if the computer persists in asking me questions.
I'm on a Mac so I have iMovie but that doesn't help if the computer is reluctant to accept USB2 feed.
A jpg icon has appeared on the desktop but I can't open it.
No, I don't have a YouTube account. I usually only go there when directed by others.
I could load it onto an SD card and try a card reader in the USB port (the camcorder converts the HD to SD for the purpose).

I asked the question because I thought it may already be covered somewhere on the forum.
Everyone knows I'm very thick when it comes to machinery.

Dark Arts is right DD. I'm as bad with a video camera and it's inner workings as I am with a video handset.

Bob, having read the 179 page manual twice, at least I can press the button and hold the camcorder still.
Wondrous things are possible but I've only used it once so that's something to which we can look forward.
All a bit pointless if the only way others can see my productions is in my living room - and Benidorm is a long way to come to view an 8 second video.

I'll buy the Canon docking DVD burner when I come back from Mallorca - that will probably make things easier.

I'm happy to select a few videos to get the "Video of the week" under way – assuming we do actually want "Video of the week"?

But I fear I should soon run out of inspiration. Ideally some input from all members is needed.

Hi Paul,

Before you can add it to this page you need to upload it to a streaming server. The easiest one to use is YouTube.

If you don't yet have a YouTube account (free) you can create one by going to:

http://www.youtube.com/signup

When you are signed in on YouTube you can upload your .wmv file by going to:

http://upload.youtube.com/my_videos_upload

When you have done that, ask again and I will explain how to put it on this page.
