The length at the least
I have searched and searched for a diagram or scale drawing of the Southern Railway's 4-wheel Covered Carriage Truck/General Utility Van, with no success. I have found two scale drawings, but neither has measurements on it. I was able to find the length listed, thirty-two feet, but it was not specified if this was "over buffers" or "over headstocks". If I just had confirmation on that, I could use the scale drawing to calculate the other measurements. Also, sorry to everyone for not being more active here and for not commenting on your stuff lately

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

The van in question, I think, is SE&CR and SR 4 wheel 32 foot Passenger Luggage/Parcels Van.
In the book there are 3 good photos and a drawing that is dimensioned and scaled to 4mm/ft.
The length is 32' over the buffer beams and 35' 10" over buffers. WB is 21'.
I can supply more details if you send me a PM with your email address.

I've seen books in this genre on Amazon going for stupid money, so this is a bargain, assuming the owner is prepared to ship to North America.

As you say similar books appear on Amazon at silly prices, some of the other historic carriage books are there now with price tags of £50+
