What impact will this have ?

The important thing is that a creator will normally be able to prove ownership by original camera files and the like.
Thus, the few that would take copyright action will still be able to do so.
The onus on taking up searches is helpful in that it means that those searching are aware that the image isn't their property.
Of course, I may be talking through my hat.

One way to make your on line pic less attractive to the robbers is to keep it small, 600 pixels on longest side is good 800 is on the edge.
Also watch out for the small print on hosting sites, many of them include a clause saying in effect "by posting on our site you give us permission to sell it to who we like and you get nowt" usually hidden in legal gobbledegook, but that's what it means.
It's not only photos that are at risk but music, authors works and other "intellectual property"
The Register article linked to by ddolfelin is mostly correct, they do tend to sensationalise a bit but the message is clear.
