A glimpse of English rural life
HiI am just back from a month in the UK and Europe, mainly to visit my daughter who now lives in London, but also spent some time in Germany and Netherlands.
As 'luck' would have it, I was in Oxford on a Saturday and managed to spend a couple of hours at Pendon.
It is an extraordinary display. The level of skill in the buildings is awesome. A couple of the many, many photos I took will give those who haven't been there some idea of what it is like.
I am reluctant to criticise any part of the exhibition so will simply make a comment. The emphasis is clearly on the scenery and I was told by an attendant that they run prototypical trains on a prototypical timetable (a Monday to include a mail train). So there can be some time when there are no trains moving.
The visit was a highlight of my visit. (That and crossing Abbey Road )
Cheers

Thanks for the pictures of a real slice of old England Evan. Pendon is renowned for it's scenic work and as that's my main interest it really works for me (although I've never visited it)!

Get up early and make a day trip up to Pendon/Didcot. I promise you won't regret it.

It is really a large scale diorama which happens to have a model railway running through it. Quite wonderful modelling – a real benchmark of what can be achieved.
Well worth a visit if you need inspiration!

Spot on Gordon. Pendon is a great tonic for all modellers, which will revive even the tiredest of mojos. I was last there in February, which was so good, that I'm going back again in May . . . and I don't even live in the UK!

Sorry to rain on your parade Evan, but the Beatles never actually crossed the road on that crossing. It was moved further along the road some years ago!

He didn't say he'd used "the" crossing Terry - just that he'd crossed Abbey Road ……………………. :hmmEvan said: The visit was a highlight of my visit. Guide to London's Abbey Road Crossing
My daughter recorded the event for posterity. And then had to suffer my rendition of various Beatles songs for the rest of the day. :-)
