Planning layouts
I have just noticed that the Metcalfe Models site now include some updated very useful 'footprint dimensions' for someone planning to use them, or indeed for someone wishing to get a reasonable idea of sizes for scratch built structures.Doug

To aid scratch building at matching sizes I cheated a bit, scanned a kit then made a few changes, slightly enlarged window openings to take etched widows, shifted positions of doors and windows, copy/paste pairs of smaller houses to make terraces of 4 or 6 (two terraces of 6 will fit on an A4 sheet in N gauge) The resultant walls can be used as complete or low relief buildings. It's also easy to rescale up or down, scaling down by a small amount for buildings at the back of a layout enables a bit of perspective modelling.for someone wishing to get a reasonable idea of sizes for scratch built structures.
(Having a plotter cutter does help when it comes to cutting out in either card or plastikard)
Cheers MIKE
