    Sir Rod also called into the Jeremy Vine Radio 2 show this morning to assure readers that most of the build was done by  him.

Jools Holland rang in as well  and basically had a chat with Sir Rod about railway modelling.

Steve  Lamacq was also there talking about his railway modelling and Steve  Flint of the Railway Modeller also called in.

Inspirational stuff. I loved this quote

SWMBO has duly been advised she cannot expect to commandeer 85%+ of our 2 suitcases next trip (in my dreams!)

I'm never shy about announcing what I do for a hobby! I am a proud model railroader, came out of the shed years ago. My family knows not to buy me daft stuff for Christmas/birthday either. Plus my wife and I have an agreement when traveling - I get to take a half full suitcase. Just in case there happens to be a model shop close to where we are going.

Sir Rod's layout has gotten lots of coverage here over the past few years. If I recall it's a dog bone, major scenic sections at each end, not a lot in the middle.

I'm a bit worried that railway modelling might become "cool".  My children would ban me from it and make me take up stamp collecting….

If it ran on rails there is probably a stamp with it on. On a serious note they are a useful source of information. As are those old ciggi cards from the 1930's.I
