Back in my younger train spotting years, I spent many a day on the platforms of Kings Cross simply standing in awe and marvelling at the sheer size and power of the Deltic.
My era of modelling is the early eighties so you can imagine in 2019, my enthusiasm, when a then very new company started out and their first model was to be a scale model of the Deltic.
I operate a DCC layout and the majority of my loco's are sound fitted. I jumped at the chance and in May 2019, pre-ordered 55 001 St Paddy with sound. Cost, £250 including vat.
Many years later following tooling issues and the covid pandemic, I was delighted this month (June 2022) to receive an email from the company to say my order was on it's way to me.
Long story short, I paid an extra £48 to have the loco shipped to me in Spain.
Tracking the package, it sat in Madrid airport for 5 days when I received a letter informing me that I need to pay extra charges before it can be forwarded to me. All necessary forms filled in online and today I received an email to say that I needed to pay €80.20 before it would be released.
The low baller is that having paid vat in the UK, the receipt showed that the UK vat had been removed and then charged again in Spain + costs and vat on those costs.
A rather expensive loco at the end of the day. When it arrives, it will bring my fleet up to around the 30 mark so thank goodness I wont have to fork out for any more for a little while.
In Spain and Europe, the standard gauge is HO and I can't get British loco's over here. I am committed to running OO gauge stock and using OO gauge track and accessories.
I know many others in this club live outside the UK and it doesn't just effect me but it does hit a raw nerve when my £250 purchase has ended up costing me around £373.
Rant over, sit down, have a beer and relax!
Gary

Yes I know tax rules have changed even amongst EU countries but UK tax should never have come into the equation and I'm not sure if delivery to the EU via Ireland should have been free as it was for the UK.
Worth dropping them an email as they seem super helpful dealing with problems.
( Yes another delighted customer here :chicken :chicken :chicken)
Cheers

Thank you.
It was ordered long before the new riles came in and I never changed the order details.
Currently enroute to France on the motor bike.

I am stunned to read about all your troubles purchasing items from the UK. I have a quite different experience.
I purchased a set of Peco 'plate girder bridge sides' for £5.10 (very good price). The postage to Australia was £3.00 (excellent). GST (Vat) was £0.81, and the packet arrived in just 16 days.
I know this is unusual, but I am not to complain

I bought from Ebay. The company seems to have two webshops:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/str/hippotoys
http://www.torrilaser.com
I have had a look at the second one. You will find a lot of interesting model railway items and the prices are quite good.
