Progress on my N gauge layout has rather stalled, so when I saw this I couldn't resist.

TT3002M Hornby DB Schenker Class 08 0-6-0 08623 - Era 10

Should arrive some time next week, along with some Peco track and some wagons.

I just had a look at the link Ed.

They certainly have some bargains there at the moment, quite huge discounts on the rrp.

Question arises as to why.

The same locos here in Oz are currently priced at Aus$290 for an A4 and Aus$339 for the Flying Scotsman.

Kernows price for a Flying Scotsman is 108 pounds which is roughly Aus$ 200 which makes it verrrry interesting.

They seem to have discounts on a number of Locos, John.

I just happened to see the 08 for less than £100 and thought why not try TT120, just to see what it's like. I wasn't really looking for anything in that scale.

I've also ordered a couple of Hornby hopper wagons for £18.99, a saving of 34% on RRP, from Amazon of all places.

I thought I might try some sort of shunting plank, as that's been the disappointment for me in UK outline N gauge.

I've got Dapol N gauge  Easi-Fit couplings, but all the N gauge wagons I've got have Rapido couplings, so I'd have to use the Dapol conversion kit to change them all to NEM pockets.

2A-000-009 (Was NSPARE9) N Gauge NEM Conversion kit– Dapol

I could swap to US outline N gauge as the couple of Locos and freight cars I've got have all got magnetic knuckle couplers, but I don't really want to do that just so that I can do some shunting

They seem to have some good deals on. I got this n gauge shunter  for £79.99, normally £129.99.

A few comparison pictures, TT120 - 2.5mm/foot and N gauge - 2mm/foot.

As I've said before, TT is/was a great scale to work in.  Many moons ago, I had a Triang TT layout - in those days, somewhat lacking in detail but the half-way house between "N" and "OO" made it ideal for those without a hangar to model in !

A pity the Hornby TT120 isn't the same as the old 3mm scale and also that Hornby have decided to keep it "in house", thus no competition - as yet !!

It's the same scale as the continental manafacturers Peter, so you could run Tillig rolling stock for example.

A lot of UK model shops appear to be stocking Tillig TT track, which has more points and crossings than what's currently available from Hornby and Peco.

Did some testing yesterday.

One of the Peco Setrack curves had a damaged rail joiner and I'm not sure if it was damage incurred in the box or Peco's quality control is wanting.

Since I didn't have a spare DC controller, but did have a spare Samsung tablet,  so I got one of these to test as well.

Dodgy picture as it was on the floor under the table. Blurred ligts are red for power and blue for bluetooth.

The app looks ok once everthing is connected.

Thought it might be fun to test the loco and wagons I've got on a shunting puzzle.

I've got two Peco points, four Hornby points, some Peco and Hornby Setrack straights of different lengths and some Peco flexitrack on the way.

I'm going to build a 'Timesaver' puzzle once the small baseboard I've ordered has arrived.

Been wanting to try these out for ages.

Only took about 15 minutes to put together the right hand side of the BB017.

I also bought a BB021 baseboard to go in-between the right hand and left hand parts of the BB017.

I'm a fan of SMS products and these boards look rather interesting and practical, not to mention time saving Ed, thus getting you to the exciting bit rather faster than traditional methods.

Watching with great interest, so all possible good karma with your build.

Bill

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)
