Give us an example Alan? Bear in mind members can choose any font from the drop down list and change it as an when they want through a post.
Also if its OLD posts from the previous Forum that have been ported over ? :-
1) the new software is able to read some tags that were included when members used 'cut and paste' to post into the old forum. These tags dictate HOW the text is displaying, which the old forum software COULDN'T do.
2) Re those tags, lots of older posts from way back that were imported into the OLD forum, have these 'tags' in them, but displaying as normal text ( sometimes in a yellow background ?) As they 'broke' when bob did the original forum move. The only way to remove them is to go in and edit each individual post and remove them. IF I'm editing an historical post and I see them then I do this at the same time to 'tidy up' , but I don't go lookin for em !!
3) You MAY be seeing the raw text that creates an emoticon. We haven't as yet imported all of the emojis FROM the old forum so some as yet, wont display properly. Jay has proved the concept, He CAN import them and then all these old emojis will display as before. But its not high priority just now.
Find an example and post a link here so we can take a look ?
Cheers
Matt

Hi Alan,
That's down to a change in the UTF-8 text encoding. It should be 3 bullet dots. In HTML code it is

Well that worked on here, so you or Matt could edit it on here. Hold down the Alt key and enter 0149 on the keyboard number pad.Martin Wynne said

The original from old YMCR was “historical” research”
same type of thing in #13491.
The original of I've has been imported with the string ’ for the apostrophe
Doesn't seem to be a problem with more recent posts of mine on Old YMRC.
PS Sorry, I didn't read the later comments about possible "whys" for the import problem. Cannot exclude these as the reason in my posts as I might have typed them in WORD first than cut 'n pasted

Breaker of Things

At some point in the coming weeks I'll see if there's anyway to do aass edit and clean it all up, will take some time though.
Signatures? Where we're going we don't need no stinking signatures!

I have corrected it for you.
That type of thing is generally caused by copying and pasting from a word processor such as Microsoft Word.
Don't do that. Web sites and forum databases don't generally handle word-processing character sets well. If it works it's just luck.
If you want to prepare a post off-line for pasting into a forum post, use a plain text editor such as Windows Notepad.
cheers,
Martin.
