At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

I do hope you will post lots of photos Bill……I am trying to work out how much space there is for a decoder and Stay Alive because unless I gamble and pre order there will then be a further delay until I can actually run them.
The early releases seem to be getting very favourable reviews so I am getting quite excited.
Best Wishes

In "the other place" there's a review with sound fitted so bound to be enough room for standard DCC and Stay alive setup. I see he used a Loksound 5 micro - will have a look around to see which decoders will fit.
edit:
Hornby's service sheet is here, showing an 8 pin socket so that makes it easy. Must be plenty of room as the sound demo is with a 26 *11mm speaker fitted

I found this most useful detailled review with lots of photos, which answers many questions which we all may have (''DCC fitting has been thought of in the design and I think will be a simple process to fit ''), prior to getting our paws on this model. I like the posable cab roof shutter.
Sorry that you have a while yet to wait, but it sounds as if it's worth it. Hattons say minme is in the post, but post is taking a little while longer to reach us here from the UK at the mo.
Very best,
Bill

I found that review very encouraging……I missed the bit about speaker size Colin……thanks for pointing it out……hopefully there will be another 5mm in width for a Supercap.
I guess I will be removing the Socket and wiring direct as per your recent project Colin…..I do that for most of my installs ……the Zimo MX617 is amazing value and unfortunately the economy Zimo 8 pin doesnt support SAs
What decoder will you be using Bill?
Best wishes

Hornby R3721 61xx 'Large Prairie' 2-6-2T 6110 in GWR green £126.00
DCC fitted but after I had paid for it, one of my mates said, he had one but not a real good runner.
Well, after fitting plug-in Kadees & they slop in the mountings Grr , while it runs nicely on ordinary flat track, not so flash slowly through insul or dead frogs, IMO , not enough up & down movement in the driving wheels.
The decoder has limited CVs as well - no CVs for min/max speed, only momentum.
Perhaps I should have got a small Class 22 diesel ( so I have pre-ordered a Dapol beast)

Stick with your kettles - with the exception of Bullied's part-built Q1, they're much prettier locomotives …………….. Pity about the poor running of the Prairie - does it have a stay-alive fitted or even a decent decoder ?

The basic decoder that Hornby supplied fitted - no stay alive but a mate has or will be fitting one to his Prairie so I have asked him to do mine as well.Pity about the poor running of the Prairie - does it have a stay-alive fitted or even a decent decoder ?

I bought D6320 when they were first announced and it arrived in 2011 ( how time flies) very good runner. They are ugly but they remind me of my younger days when they ran from Plymouth although they did not do that for long as they were not very reliable - the Dapol model I have doesn't have this as a feature

You might want to add some weight to help both performance and haulage. Out of the box they are pretty mediocre performance wise but with after purchase mods like SA and weight they can become acceptable.Petermac wrote:The basic decoder that Hornby supplied fitted - no stay alive but a mate has or will be fitting one to his Prairie so I have asked him to do mine as well.Pity about the poor running of the Prairie - does it have a stay-alive fitted or even a decent decoder ?

John, did you change the decoder & if so, to what brand?
